Looking for casual musicians for collab...

Hey all,

I'm wondering if anyone here who can play an instrument (or can sing) would be willing to work on some collaborative songs for use in Trainz as sound files for cafes and bars etc. Just a little more of that nightlife urban feel?

I am a fairly proficent bass guitarist, so I'd be keen to find anyone who can play anything else to work with to make some songs (or just do some covers).

I have mixing software, so I am able to mix the tracks. However I'm not completely experienced in it, so if anyone who can do it, and is willing to, I'd happily hand over the task to a professional.

Regards,
FSF.

As an amature arranger, it seems to me there might be some copyriight issues unless you are using songs that have expired copyrights. Just a thought.

If the amateur musicians being recruited, though, are working on original material, as opposed to covering someone else's tunes, then there should not be a copyright issue as far as arranging is concerned.

I don't think the copywrite still stands if the covering artist doesn't sell the item, but more themselves. Theoretically, if what you're saying were true, every band that does random covers would have a hell of a time hunting down the bands they wish to cover a single song, and then get permission. Plenty of people do covers on youtube, which is fine. However if you cover a song while the original is playing in the background, the song will be removed for copywrite infringement.

What I am proposing should be safe.

This I would prefer to do anyway. It's not hard to make up a few simple tunes for a cafe/bar loop.

I do play alto saxophone and have some of my own recordings of me playing my own compositions. how many are out dated and need new recordings.

I will throw a PM to you.

Well, first off, copyright (note spelling) varies considerably from one jurisdiction to another, and in these forums there are individuals who are domiciled in and whose use of intellectual property is governed by at the intellectual property laws of several different jurisdictions. I confess that I read your original post with the view that you were looking to make these sound recordings available for others, although you don't specifically say so. And while I'm not an attorney, in my informed lay opinion, if you contemplate distributing the recorded material to anyone not involved in making it, the best way to not violate intellectual property laws is to use strictly original material.

A thorough discussion of the various implications of copyright is off topic for the forum, so I won't discuss more here.

I am a fairly proficent bass guitarist,

Thats quite ironic, the reason I started playing bass was because there wern't many of us around now there's at least 2 who are trainz n trains fans. I can play keyboard, trumpet and trombone as well if thats any help but I since started smoking so I may not have the puff for a brass instroment any more and I compose to a certian degree.

Who are your influances and what styleeee of music are you thinking of?

I've done a small peice of music using Ableton live 7 but have since lost all sound files and got rid (luckly banged the peice into a wav file) I just haven't finished a route yet to put the tune to.

If there is anything I can do or help you with send me a pm and I get working on it. Us bass players need to stick together againsed those scary guitarists that think we're all failed guitar players.

Keep on blistering those fingers.

Hey Backyard,

Here's a video of Arlen Roth playing a guitar at the NAMM show that looks a lot like yours.

I was thinking about putting these Bill Lawrence (humbucker version) pickups in a Les Paul Standard.

Bill Lawrence pu's are very underrated and somewhat unknown to the masses.

Yet another bassist here. Have a bull fiddle too. Perhaps in the future I would like to contribute to something in the old timey, honky tonk, or rockabilly area. I play a lot of heavy stuff too, but I wouldn't want it in Trainz. I'm in the market for some digital recording stuff where this might be possible. Not that I would have the time or energy any time soon, but if you guys get some stuff working, maybe we can work in a little variety for different times and eras. I'm not a failed guitarist. I'm a brutal drummer but drums can't make notes... not in the traditional sense at least.

There are a lot of big words in there, sonny. We not be but humble musicians. :p

bassist118: My background and influences aren't consistant. I like to involve all styles of music. But to give you an idea, my main original style influences are Chris Wolstenholme (Muse), Flea (Red Hot Chili Peppers) and John McVee (Fleetwood Mac).

Where is going to be the best place for us to work on this? Skype, Live, ICQ? I have Skype on most of the time, if anyone wants to find me there just search for the same username as here.

FSF.

I also play bass, however not that well as I started about 3 months ago and am trying to self train myself. I have Skype, check the profile.

Cheers,

Although it is a long time since I last played, I used to be a competition bagpiper.:hehe: :hehe: :hehe: Probably not suitable for cafe music ;) ;) ;)

Band nerd here! Tenor Saxaphone ftw!!
Im farley good, havent realy writting any music, except for a few rythems that iv made up from boring days in class:p

oh man, I wish I could help you, but I'm a little preoccupied making my own tunes for a project of my own.

It would depend on the level of work required. I am extremely talented in using Garageband instruments (not the loops!) and I can play a little electric guitar. Here are some examples of my work. (These are just music covers, I'm not uploading anything original just yet).
