Look for a asset

The way I measure the length of a straight track or a tunnel or any length of track is run a engine on it in drive. Is there a way to do this in surveyor? Thanks funnnyfarm

Lay a Trainz ruler 1609m long (5280'), then make a straight track a tad longer ... place a consist on the straight track, and two brightly colored railcars to mark each end ... Use the ? button to name that New Consist ... place that new consist and mark mile markers if you want

There are "Measuring Wagons" by Willem2 on the DLS, Both Imperial and Metric. I connect 10 of the Imperial ones and make a consist "Mile .1" and then do 10 of those to make a consist "Mile 1". I put a different color at each end of the Mile .1 so I can easily see where each section begins.

Use Track Scanner kuid2:117746:23230:1

TrackScanner Device. Used in Surveyor to measure track distances and objects between two points

To add you will find it in the Trackside assets folder along with signals etc. You drop it on the track use trackmarks or similar to where you want to measure, click the question mark icon then the scanner to open the settings dialogue where all will be revealed.

clam1952 - Thanks for that tip - the Track Scanner was a revelation for me and provides a good deal of useful information about the route path (and not just the distance) between two points.
Pity about the black-on-blue dialog text. Know there's a fix for that somewhere on these forums too...

Here you go:
Change all instances of
<font color=#000000 - which is black
to
<font color=#ffffff - which is white
