Loco lights

Among the many things that need to be reviewed in our simulator, I have a basic one here: If you run a train in the evening, the lights (Head lights) of the loco don't come ON until after is dark. And in the morning, they switch OFF at about 5:37 ! when is still dark. I would love to be able to switch ON and OFF the lights manually, as it was in the earliest editions of Trainz, or at least, have a more realistic automatic turn ON/OFF times. Is this so hard to do?

You can you just press the L key on the keyboard to turn the lights on or off. And for automatic lights there is a rule I believe that can do that already dont' know the name off the top of my head. One thing little I am confused about is what railroad doesn't run the lights on their trains during the day? I think its normal to have them on 24/7 anyways.

What version of Trainz are you using? 2006 introduced the headlamp on during the day function. In later versions you can control the headlamp at will.

L. It does not work. I have known this for a long time, but since 09, and now 12, I can't switch the lights ON pushing L. Why?

Further to the issue: Yes, the lights turn ON, but they don't illuminate anything. There is an icon to turn lights and dim them, but outside of the hours I mention in the above original post, I can't see ahead of the loco. Try it and you'll "see" what I mean.

Shift L does nothing in my system. If it does in yours, I want to know how, and if any other member has experimented with all this.

L/Shift L works all right for me too. I can also turn them on with Raildriver and on the on screen CAB/DCC hud. With the latter 2 you can't dim them though.

Okay, there was another thread about this awhile ago. I think he's referring to the light shown on the track and landscape. I think that's either a function of the track (not sure) or hard coded into the game, which is more likely.

Euphod: You are right. I want to be able to see the track from the cab. Time ago you could even illuminate a tunnel even in day time! But now, pass 5:37 AM, illumination is gone. Interesting is that cars and buildings still have lights until day light breaks..

Check your keyboard.txt file. Maybe something got screwed up and L is not connected to the lights in your game.

L is not screwed in my game. If I click L I see the light coming ON or OFF. But it does not illuminate the track or terrain. Read my thead carefully and you'll understand, and L has nothing to do with the 5:37 AM issue. I'll check later on the loco lighting rule.
