Lobato Trestle, Chama

Klinger

The Chicago CTA guy
Lobato Trestle has been damage by fire. Bridge is undergoing structural inspection, but it appears that the entire bridge deck has been destroyed, with maybe only a quarter having survived. Most of it has been chared and burned beyond repair.

The Steel itself seems to be fine, but still needs to be inspected.

Trains from Chama have been canceled, passengers will be bussed to Antonito and Osier. The children's Cinder Bear trains will continue from Chama to Lobato, and then return to Chama

Klinger, probably a good thing you added that the trains are still running, last thing we need is people thinking that C&TS is outta business. This is a real shame

Yea. I read about this over at the NGDF, and was about to post a link to that discusion when I noticed you already have a thread.

PS: The bridge is made of wrought Iron, not steel.

Yes, Trains are still running. In fact, I would advise anyone who rides the train from now until the Bridge is fixed to visit Chama and go shop there anyway. Visit OM and OY, walk through the yard, Chama is really the better half of the trip. Don't miss out because of the bridge

Stinks for those who were going to ride out of chama. The 4% is the best part of the line. And yes, I personaly think chama is better than Antonito. More places to go, bigger yard, etc,etc,etc...

According to the structural engineers, the bridge is repairable. No estimates yet on cost or length of repair.

Apparently it needs custom cut bridge ties

Now it appears that The structural Engineers say the bridge CAN be repaired, but their suggestion is to "Rebuild"(Replace) The Bridge. Which means that the grade side of the RR is out of Commish for the rest of the season. The Fact that they took 12 cars, and one locomotive from the Chama side to Cumbres Pass, does not Bode well for the Chama side this season, But remember one thing...

THE TRAIN IS STILL RUNNING!!!!

sorry for the caps, but I have heard that there are news stations saying the "train is shut down till they rebuild The WOOD train bridge"

And that is why Problems on the Railroad + Media = Blown waaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyy out of proportion.

Then again, the media always makes things larger than the truth for their ratings. What ever happened to the good old news?
