Layers Merged and lost!

I need help... I've been working on a route for months, and today I was messing with the "merge session/route layer" - didn't think anything of it, and then saved and exited. When i opened it back up the whole route was there, but ALL objects were gone!?

I'm panicing a bit, but I noticed in the program files for Trainz there are a bunch of backup folders for the route that get auto-saved somehow. How can I restore all my hard work??

I think you can 'revert' by opening up CM and importing the content back in from one of the backup folders.

Thanks for that idea... but it still didn't work. somehow all objects are still gone... is it possible I made them invisible somehow? Ug. I'm so scared I lost everything!

Check your layers, you may have put them into the wrong layer. Open edit session of your route NOT the edit route. It should open in the session layer (check the layer tab), if you then click merge session it shouls come up with a window with route layer. Everthing will then be in the route layer. Also check that you have not switched a layer off by clicking the left icon of the layer window.

Funny you should mention this. Same thing happened to me just two days ago. I merged the route and session layers and saved. A few hours later when I tried to open the route I found there was no session.

Good news was that I had just backed up all my routes and sessions to an external hard drive the day before so I had a backup.

This never happened to me before, but it just keeps me focused on the importance of backups.

Each time you open the edit route in surveyor a new session is created as the route does not have a session. You need to open edit sessin for both the route and saved session to become available.

thanks everyone. i got the reverted backup imported through the cm. i had to re-do a little lost work, but eh... its fun. ;)

The session itself was gone, so there was no session to open.

Is this possibly caused by hiding one or more of the layers? There is an "eye" showing on a visible layer. When you click the eye it closes and anything on the layer becomes invisible.

I have had routes and sessions go "bad" and disappear from the route list, and have sessions themselves disappear from within the route. Later on I found them in the faulty items in CMP.

For me the repairs were simple. I had to add in a locale for one, and another I had to delete a thumbnail reference for something that I had never created a thumbnail for in the first place?

So, check your faulty items and see if it's there.
