Latest Content Manager Issues- Had enough!

SO yesterday my content manager locked up on me which is nothing new. It does it about every month, after I add so much new content that it doesn't know how to handle it all anymore. So I did what I had to, and closed it out using task manager. It did the usual error checking which takes about 12 hours. And now it seems like every time it does a database "repair", assets come out with sudden problems that they didn't have before. I am getting an error that says "unable to link to compiled script class". I personally am sick and tired of having perfectly good assets ruined by the database repair scans. There is no valid reason for it. I never know what it is going to ruin next. Auran, you have a lot of answering to do regarding this. What are you going to do to prevent this, and how do we know the same problem will not happen when we invest in Trainz A New Era? Because right now, I personally will not ever purchase another Trainz release. If you can't get Content Manager problems straightened out, none of the rest will even matter. I await your answers, Auran.

I understand your frustration as I've had CM do things like that to me as well. However... The worst thing you can do is to use task manager to kill it or TADDaemon because they are working with the big database called assets.tdx. If that file should become completely corrupted, you'll have to sit through and even more lengthy and risky Extended Database Repair. Whenever there's a lot of stuff to download, I do it in chunks. This gives CM a chance to mow through what's in the download queue before adding more assets.

Now regarding the errors. In most cases these are false. The way to remove the errors is to view errors and warnings on these assets. In most cases all of the errors will go away. Should there be any left over, then these will have to be repaired. You should also check for items that maybe open for edit. This happens as well if you lock up during a download.

My question though is what is really causing all your database problems other than those which are self inflicted? I would seriously check your hard drive and system for errors as that can cause all kinds of problems with complex applications. Recently I had a hard drive die, dead as a brick. Up to that point, Trainz had trouble loading, well it loaded but the performance wasn't there. I had a good back up of my data and I was able to restore things from two days prior which wasn't a lot considering I had done no route editing.

In addition to that, it's never a good idea to install a lot of assets in one go. TrainzUtil and TADDaemon can only handle so much in one go, and if one of those is running slower than it should do, it's bound to make Content Manager freeze temporarily. Best thing to do is simply to wait for it to stabilise.

Thanks for your great advice. I know it is a bad idea to close the CM out in that way. But after being froze up for 3 hours, I realized it was not going to do anything unless I manually closed it. I realized most of the time the errors were false. I would view them, and then they disappeared. But now they don't disappear anymore. The unable to link script class is a new error that I hadn't seen before. However, right now I am opening the assets for edit, and re-committing them with no errors. But this process is going to take all day. I find myself having to do things like this after every database repair. It just takes time away from actually playing the game. And it's not so fun anymore.

Your point about my hard drive could be valid. It has been showing an error when I boot up. And recently I had to put replace some config files to get it to boot up properly. I am considering moving Trainz to an external drive, and just running the game from that. If that is easy to do. Does anyone know if it's possible to just play Trainz from an external drive?

Thanks for your reply, Shane. Lesson learned, with that one for sure. I will keep that in mind in the future.
