Laptop CD drive

Hi guys

I am after some help with a CD drive on a laptop. When I put a disc in it the light on the drive comes on and the disc spins, but after what sounds like 3 or 4 attempts to read it the disc stops spining and the light on the drive continues the flash. If I double click on the drive icon in my computer I get the message "D:\ is not accessible the device is not ready". Device manager says that the device is working properly.

I would be grateful for any advice you could offer me.

Are there any cracks in the CD? If you hold it up to the light it may have a tiny crack radiating from the centre hole.Also have you checked Device Manager to see whether the CD Drive has the right Drivers?

I've tried a few different CD's and checked the drivers with Device manager.

Try using a CD lens cleaning disk - unless the computer's manual tells you not to, of course.
