Lanscape / Ground Texture / Scenery

Hi,

I was looking for your input on some of these subjects. I am not an artist and so it will be a challenge for me to create nice looking routes from scratch with no pictures to go by or anything. What is the standard that you folks use for the track bed color? In my area they used a blueish rock as the bed and am trying to find just the right texture to use. Also for scenery, what is the best time to use either landscape or backdrops efficiently. I guess there are lots of questions that fall into this category but if everyone could answer with what they use as guidelines or whatnot it would definitely be helpful.

Thanks.

Theres an old thread "Trees and Grass vs FPS" which I"ll bump up for you.I suggest you look at Google Earth images for your area and try to match the colours to them.

Thank you i will take a look at that thread. Google earth and others is not too much help for me as the images are very low res for my area.

Personally I never use backdrops.I"m modelling a "real life" route and I"m lucky in that part of it runs through a valley with high land on one side and trees on the other, and another part is on the coast so its all water. If you do a forest, the fastest way is to make up a good forest then copy and paste it.If you keep the camera close to the ground you can get away with less background than you would otherwise need.
