Lance - what's the holiday

leeferr

thanks for the memories
Lance
I was reading your post about wednesday being a holiday and I was just curious as to what the holiday is

Mike

V-P day (Victory in the Pacific), I believe in the US it's referred to as V-J day.

If it is then it is not shown on my calender and nor is NSW celebrating it to my knowledge. My calender shows all public holidays and for which state of Australia they apply too.

I wondered about this myself while having my morning coffee fix :hehe:

That's the only event commemorated on August 15th to my knowledge - I have no idea whether it's a public holiday or not though, it isn't here I know that (wouldn't mind though!)

Take your pick: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/August_15

Maybe they're celebrating the opening of the Panama Canal, or Napoleon's birthday :p (or maybe Auran are just having their annual holiday..)

Don't forget that Auran HQ isn't in the US and we don't celebrate US holidays here. As Peter said, it's Brisbane Show Day.

I wasn't trying to start a debate here. All that I wanted to know was what the holiday was. I was just curious.

I wish sometimes I lived in Japan; they seem to have more National Holidays than most nations!:)

Maybe if I make a list of all holidays around the world, I can celebrate all of them and I can't think of a better way than playing Trainz on every holiday:cool:

JB was right, it was VP day yesterday, I saw this on the news last night.

Still not sure why nothing was on my calender and not sure if other States also celebrated the day.

Hehe Ed don't be so hasty. ;) Out here in Asia, it's quite common to work 8-10 hour days, have a 1-3 hour commute (one way) and work 6 days a week. :/ Plus, having been to Japan, it's more expensive than you can ever imagine. Japan is of my favourite places on Earth :D but it's not a place I could see myself living in unless I won the lottery :D

Ancient Rome was the place to be: I think they had something close to 150 holidays a year :D but well...I guess the Romans didn't exactly survive...

Still, it makes me wonder what will happen in the future as more and more things become automated. What will people do for jobs and income? Maybe we'll just spend time in cryostasis or something so we don't go broke and will only be active for 4 hours a day or something. :hehe:

Dangit, now I want to go to Japan...

Gisa ^^
