KIng Edward II has been restored!

Even though I never realy had a love for Brittish locomotives (people who have seen my post in 'ugly trains' will know this), I have a mutual respect for this one considering the condition it was in before restoration.

Hi Folks.

Using skipper1945's King George V as the base, here's what I came up with this afternoon:-

BTW, I think that King George V was also once in this colour scheme and so this should be correct. What do people think? The only thing wrong at the moment is the late version BR symbol.

I've seen its sister engine 6024 and these locos are a pleasure to look at and watch work.

considering what this loco has come from to what it is now... its an outstanding achievement, I will be seeing it in the flesh this year and the Severn Valley Railway Autumn Steam Gala :D

@CaptEngland.

Good reskin there, it gives me ideas!

@IKB

I agree, it should be kept strictly in GWR green livery but the owners have seen fit to paint it blue and that is their right. Why they want to paint it blue I don't know, did it ever have this livery in it's early BR days?
I, as an interested party in currently preserved locos, no matter what the livery, will attempt a reskin of skipper1945' model in to BR blue.

Rob.

Originally painted in green, with a copper chimney and brass bonnet, the locomotive was gleaming in royal blue on Saturday, a colour previously used on 6023 for a brief period in the 1950s.

Your preference for green is understandable, but according to the article the blue is not historically inaccurate, at least for a brief period of time.

Blue is historically accurate for this loco, for a very brief period in very early British Railways days.

I was only joking anyway, i really like the Experimental Express Blue livery, that was trialed on some of the larger classes of loco across the then BR loco fleet.

Blue steam locos and a lighter blue version of the blue-grey applied from 1967 to coaching stock.

Would in my opinion have been a better BR 1950`s - 1960`s livery, than maroon. ;)

Rob, personally i have no interest at all in preservation railways, they have nothing to do with reality. ;)

Hmmm, BR Blue or Royal Blue, are they both the same colour?

The tender for this loco was sticking out of the shed late last year, and it struck me as a very bright colour, certainly very eye catching.

I was told that the hue wasn't strictly accurate, and it was to be a temporary livery. I also got the impression that certain factions there were looking forward to winding up some sections of the preservation movement with it:hehe: .

Chris.

The reason the livery didnt last long was because the finish rapidly deteriorated whereas dull old green was much tougher so unfortunately we where stuck with green Jubilees, not good.:'( I think red had the same problem.

Heresy.........it should only be painted green. ;)

You are dead right there IKB and I will go further. The owners on this Loco should be flogged and band from ever owning any historical equipment again. And and and..... Further to that again they should be debarred from entering any railway property anywhere in the world.

Blue indeed, what is the world coming to.............. ABSOLUTE SACRILEGE:hehe:

from a words fail me

I don't understand the problem with the loco being in BR Blue... It's accurate, its not fictional or made up.

I think its good to be different and not tight cast to BR/GWR Green, especailly IF it has carried another livery, if it was pink, or apple green then I'd certainly be more understanding.

The guys have spent 22 years restoring and raising money for this wonderful loco and I think the choice of livery is great! I've seen so many Green and Black locos and people complaining about choice of livery, if you're that fussed, you spend 22 years (and £700,000) restoring a wreck to a stunning piece of engineering for people to look at and enjoy it.
