Just wondering, what are some of the forum member's computer specs?

Until about a week ago, a E2200 Core Duo with 1Gb (dual channel), nVidia 8400GS, Windows XP, which ran TS2010 just fine.

Now running a E8400 Core Duo with 4Gb (dual channel, /3Gb switch enabled), 8400GS, XP of course.

For everyone, especially with running high detail routes and rolling stock.

My machine is about 3 months old, and I built it myself from parts I purchased at NewEgg. www.newegg.com

Motherboard: EVGA Classic Series P55 3-way SLI capable.
CPU: Intel i7 920 at 2.9GHZ
Video Card: EVGA 275/250 with 1.8GB RAM
Memory: 8GB expandable to 16GB
Hard Disk(s): 3 x Seagate 1TB SATA 7200 RPM drives not RAIDED.
Audio: Creative Labs Soudblaster XFi
Display: Samsung SyncMaster 226 - 21" LCD.
Case: Corsair 800D with 2 Noctua Fans in addition to the built-in 1400mm ones that came with the case.

The system is running Windows 7 Ultimate.

John

AMD Phenom II X4 940 overclocked to 3.5 GHz
8 GB DDR2 memory
1 TB Western Digital Caviar Black SATA 3
Sapphire Toxic 1 GB 5850
Creative Sound Blaster Titanium Fatal1ty Pro sound card
Corsair TX650W power supply
Logitech X-540 speakers
Samsung B2430HD 24" monitor & HDTV @ 1920 x 1080
Dell 20" monitor @ 1680 x 1050
Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit

I have very little problems with running large routes...it's more of the hi-poly track or extremely detailed scenery that brings my computer down. Otherwise, anything else is a piece of cake for me. Even extreme multitasking (sometimes 3 games at once) is not a problem.

Low specs here but it runs TRZ 09 beautifully.

5 year old IBM Think Centre
Intel P4 (dual core) @ 3.0 Ghz
2 Gb DDR3 RAM (maxed out)
nVidia (PNY) NVS295 Video/256 Mb(DDR3)Fanless uses 20W
19" Acer LCD @ 1440x900 Res
WIN XP Pro/Sp3
Toshiba 250GB USB Portable HD
Creative X-Fi Sound Card
Altec Lansing Speakers

With this set up I get frame rates in the low 30's running Philskenes gorgeous Industrial Routes, except in very heavy built up areas and yards with lots of engines and rolling stock where frame rates drop to the low teens. I also run TRZ 06, however frame rates average about 30% lower with less draw distance. I am posting this merely to demonstrate that a Super Computer is not needed to run TRAINZ.

Cheers, Tom

See mine below. Got it last December. I think the Dell 8100 is the current version. I am very happy with it, not just with TS2009.

Specs of one of many computers I have:

Custom built ITX machine:
Intel Core2Quad Q6600 @ 2.40GHz LGA775 Quad Core chip
nVidia nForce 730i (Geforce 9300 core, always active)
nVidia Geforce 9600GT 512mb
Western Digital 1TB SATA HD
LG SATA DVD-RW with lightscribe (never used LS)
Realtek HDA Audio (nVidia variant)
The wrong intel Heatsink and fan, with 5 fans inside as well. (One on the MCP as its called, CPU, intake, Powersupply, GPU)
VERY NOISY

Travelling machine:
Acer Aspire 3023WLMi
1.8ghz AMD Sempron processor (3200+)
1GB RAM
ATi Xpress 300 chipset IIRC
ATi Mobility Radeon X700 128mb video card (I have 2 other systems with simliar styling, ones a 3023WLMi with less ram, the other is a half built 5022 IIRC, with an X600 64mb chip)
160GB Travelstar hard drive (The other 3023 has a 60GB Hitachi I think, hard drive, the other has no hard drive at all yet)
15.4in dispaly, one doesn't have one, one has a broken display back.
Broadcomm 802.11b/g wireless card
etc, etc, etc.

Ultraportable:
eeePC 901.
Intel Atom N270 (1.6Ghz)
2GB RAM
Intel GMA950 with SMA
120GB Toshiba 1.8" hard drive (yes! I squeeze one in... just)
Sierra wireles MC8775 3G card, retrofit.
Intel WifiLink 5100 wireles card

and 10 more systems to document.

Here are my two:

Trainz Machine:
Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 @ 3.16GHz
4GB DDR2 RAM
ATI Radeon HD 4850 - 512mb
Samsung 320 GB SATA Hard Drive

Laptop:
Intel Core 2 Duo T7500 @ 2.20Ghz
2GB DDR2 RAM
Intel Graphics Media Accelerator X3100 - 358mb (Onboard)
Hitachi 160 GB Hard Drive

Mark

DJT,

can you tell me what draw distance you used to measure fps?
I use average 7000-8000 m on my routes coz of rocky mnts scenery a must be part of the routes charm!
I run average fps 20-25 with my 9800gtx card and plan to upgrade to gtx 480 if it really makes sense.
What about the heat and how much fps more for you compared to what in the past you used as card?
Still happy with 480 and maybe more info for us to share on good and bad things??

thanks

Roy

All of the options in TS2010 were at their maximum settings including the draw distance set to it's max of 5000m.

As far as the 480 GTX is concerned as long as you have the CPU to back it up, it's a great video card. Image quality is about as good as gets with super sampling AA enabled without the frame rate hit that I've seen with my previous video cards.

does Acer Aspire G 7700 support gtx480? enough

thanks DJT:

wonder if you have heat problems like the internet rumours so much about 480 hot as a frying pan.
Does my aspire 7700G intel core2 quad CPU Q9550 2.83GHZ 2.83GHz give enough juice to support this card.
What is your take and or advice on this?

thanks Roy

I've got my 480 GTX in a Corsair 800D case with Noiseblocker replacement fans and I'm not having any temperature issues.

I'm not sure why you included the mobile processor in there but with the Q9550 I'd say you'd want to get it to at least 3.6GHz + and even at that clock speed I'd consider it a bottleneck for the 480 GTX.
