Junction will not change...

In my own route, i have to change a junction to go to the right instead of going straight ahead. I change it within ROUTE so that the green arrow is going to the right. I then go to SESSIONS and do the same thing there. But when i try to run the session the junction green arrow is still going to the left. I have deleted the track all around this junction and installing it from a new direction even.
I have done an Extended Database Repair and it still shows up the wrong direction. There must be a way of changing it and have it remained changed when i go to run the session. What am i doing wrong?

Thanks in advance,

Harold

One of them oddball things that make you wonder what the programmer was smoking. :cool: The position of the switch is indeed stored in the session, but when you create and save the session, it takes the information about the switch setting from the route layer. So changing it in the route won't change it in an already created session.

What you have to do is edit the session, change the switch settings, then click Save - the box comes up with assorted options, what you want to select is Overwrite existing route AND Overwrite existing session. Perfectly safe provided you change nothing else in the route layer except the switch settings. If you then look at a different session created earlier, you'll see that the switch positions haven't changed to what is now stored in the route layer, because that session already has the previous settings stored in it.

Now I gotta go smoke something really good so I can understand what the hell I just typed.

Try changing its default direction in surveyor. Open you route and go to the tracks tab and then in the middle icon which I think is for track objects click this and you will see a three headed arrow at the bottom of the tab. Click this three headed arrow and then click on you point (junction) and the arrow in surveyor will point the alternate way. Save in surveyor and then try to drive your route to see if that has any effect. Obviously your junction will now need to be changed to go straight ahead as the default direction will be to the right

sniper297...i think you have the solution to my problem. I must save both, layout and session at the same time and not seperately.
Many thanks for the help. I've got other family type things to do first but i'll get back to this thread later on.

Yeah, the forum search is currently busticated, so I don't think I can find the old thread. But I did do extensive testing on this about a year ago, and found that if I want a series of default switch settings, I need to edit the session, change the switch directions, then save - overwrite route and session. To set the switches for a different default path, you need to save a new session - but Save As won't work, that brings up the Save new route and session with the other options greyed out. So;

1. Edit session, change switch directions, click Save, not Save As.

That's the default settings, but you have the option to change it;

Then you get this;

Click Yes, you're overwriting the route (not really, altho the new switch positions will be default for the next new session you create from scratch) and creating a new session.

Switch settings for the original session are not changed;

But when you open the new session you have different default switch settings for that one.

This thing of routes and layers have given me many sleepless nights. In the old times it was easy: You set things in routes, and sessions will show the changes. But for the sake of fixing what was right, we got this madness today. The issue of saving sessions, routes and layers should be reworked and made more user friendly.. or leave things as they were. I know there are many of us that understand it and think it is the biggest thing ever made in Trainz, but us, dumb as we are, would like to see an easier and more comprehensive way of managing the saving process. There are more pressing issues in Trainz at this time that need to re-solved than "fixing" what was working nicely before. Sorry to critizise, but I have to vent my frustration somewhere...
