Hi folks

I know JoshEH had a website that explained how to reskin locos, work in layers in Paintshop Pro etc??

Would anyone have a link to that site please, also any other websites that explain how to reskin and use layers etc.

Thanks folks.

I haven't got time to see if Josh's tutorials are listed, but they probably are. The Tutorials section of the Trainz Resources Directory for links to just about every Trainz tutorial ever written. Just enter "reskin" in the search box on the left. There you will find a number of tutorials listed by Phil Campbell and others.

They were hosted at Steamtrainz.

Sadly we lost the tutorial in a server crash a few years back.

PhilC's tutorial is incomplete.

I'm tying to help out Nickel Plate Road here, (NKP), we do seem to be rather short on tutorials for reskinning.

I just ran http://steamtrainz.org through the WayBack Machine but didn't get a result. Do you remember the EXACT url of the old site and I'll try again? It has to be exact.

Also, people often download tutorials so that they can use them again without connecting to the Internet. Maybe such a person will come forward. I found my old Double Slip Switch tutorial that way.

Thanks for letting me know Colhad. Actually it was listed on my site for several months but when the author more told me through this forum to go jump (thread removed by moderators), I removed the link to his web site as requested. In so doing the tutorial link was also disabled. Having found the tutorial on the Carson Car Shops site, I'll relist it but not give credit to the author who it seems would prefer it that way.

Thanks for that sr6900. I've emailed him to see if I can host his tutorial on the Trainz Resources Directory

Update:

Josh answered my email. He doesn't have a copy of the tutorial any more and wonders if it would still be in vogue considering how long ago it was written.

Would anyone like to comment.

Well in digging I was able to find the tutorials on way back machine. Unfortunately all of the pictures were lost, I'll be talking to Josh next time I see him and see if he'll allow Steamtrainz to once again host his tutorial.

Lilb,

The Wayback Machine is not an easy site to use, however I've had enormous success downloading a lot of stuff that disappeared during my computer crashes over the years. In a previous post I asked you if you would supply your old URL. Maybe you missed my post which I've quoted below. The site was actually http://streamtrainz.com as you know, and I've managed to retrieve quite a bit of stuff that you may be interested in. These include, but are not limited to: Iportal Tutorial and photos etc for the VR S Class which don't seem to appear on your new site.

I've already spoken to Josh and mentioned your site. I'm sure he will allow you to host the tutorial again, but he has also allowed me to do the same. having the tutorial on a couple of sites is not so silly considering the circumstances. As such, any assistance you can offer me will also help you.

Johnk, drop me an email sometime with all of the tutorials you've found. I was able to recover the bump map tutorial, but I haven't had time to go diving for the iportal one yet (and like lilb I wasn't able to find all of the reskin tutorial pictures).

As for the VR S class, that was a project by billegulla while it was listed on our site it was never officially made a Steamtrainz project, it was also completed before our .com site went down, and when we changed domains, our lives took priority so things have been slow to be re-organized.

Josheh's textures tutorial is now available at the The Trainz Resources Directory. It's not listed in the menu yet but you may view the complete tutorial with no missing pictures at this temporary site.

Many thanks to Josh for his support and to Alexi Zoban who helped make it all happen. I now have three more of Josh's tutorials which will become available over the next couple of days.
