The Canadian National Railway (I'm more partial to Canadian Pacific anyway) has finally purchased the Elgin, Joliet and Eastern Railway. The EJ&E is(was) a Class II railroad operating between Gary, Indiana to Waukegan, Illinois since the 19th century. The Canadian National had previously murdered the Duluth, Missabe and Iron Range Railway (EJ&E's Sister Road) and the Wisconsin Central, so now the blood-thirsty monster has decided to swallow up the EJ&E too. Apparently UP and BNSF didn't object to the idea, so once again, another individual railroad dissapears into a Class I.

Yippee.

What???

I thought the UP was the railroad-merger, um, -er.

Do you think they'll at least keep the EJ&E colors?

(PS: forgive an ignorant Southerner if it's patently obvious that they won't.)

Look up "Duluth Missabe and Iron Range Railroad" and see the swell job CN has done with them.

Nothing against CN personally, and who knows? This probably means more rail traffic in my neck of the woods.

But CN had better take care of the J.

Night.
