Is there a way to reassigned break controls for TRS2004

In particular, I would like to know whether it is possible to assigned a pair of keys so it is possible to linearly increase or decrease the train breaks, as in MSTS (which I've just got into)? Since I think having Lap (z), Apply (a) and Release (q), is somewhat limitted. And Rail Driver is out of the question for me. I'm using TRS2004 and just started to venture into MSTS which simply have a lot more routes available.

Thanks

Sorry if this is obvious, but in CAB mode with non-steam trains you can also use the dynamic brakes which are graduated.

You may want to check weather or not the locomotives you are using are equipped with "self lapping brakes" as this feature, common on newer locomotives, eliminates one step (lap) in the process of braking. I think that may be part of your issue, the other being that Trainz seems to apply the brakes much more quickly than in MSTS.

In real life those are the only choices a driver has (apart from the self lapping mentioned before)

*Emergency - dumps the air as fast as possible.

*Application - lets the air out slowly.

*Lap - literally does nothing :)

*Run/Running - maintains correct pressure in the brake pipe to hold the brakes off and to recharge the reservoir of each wagon.

*Release - charges the brake pipe quickly to release the brakes.

The driver can apply the brakes slowly by just using the Lap position and letting the leaks in the system drop the pipe pressure and also release them slowly by just using the Run to raise the pressure.

There's a lot more about the real-world Westinghouse brake system in this Wikipedia article.

Don't forget about dynamic brakes on electric and diesel-electric locos. They are extremely useful in Trainz, and I guess also in the real world.

Dynamic brakes are not really stopping brakes, more of a 'hold' the speed brake as they are only as powerful as the loco's traction motors, to put it another way they can only slow a train with the same force as the loco can accelerate the train, while they can bring a train to a slow speed (early versions couldn't be used under about 20mph) it takes a very long time to do so as the slower you get the less effective they become, there intended purpose is to stop the speed increasing while going downhill to save wear on the brake shoes.

You can't reassign keys in Trainz.

The '<' and '>' keys work to apply/release brakes in DCC mode, they may do the same in Cab mode.

It's been a while since I've run TRS04 but those are the throttle controls used in TRS06 with the "?" being used for brake application.

It's really unfortunate that we can't assign hotkeys for these controls, which is why I favor using DCC over cab mode when running trainz in driver mode.
