Is There a Uni-Directional Whistle Post?

Routelayer Ordinaire...
Hi All,

Recently I've been playing around with the whistle rule and I am quite happy to see the AI run the trains along and blow their horn when they should. However, on the return trip, they blow the horn at the same spot coming back (which would seem kind of strange after going past a crossing right?). I was wondering if there was uni-directional whistle posts or how I would go about making it uni-directional (or for that matter, if it is even possible).

Any constructive input as always, is greatly appeciated!

There are many different Whistle on the D/L

The Australian Vertical Whistle Board is one, I have created a invisable whistle sign.

I believe I am correct in this (its early and I haven't had any red yet!):-

In TRS2006 there is a built in whistle (named horn - most un-British) which is direction orientated. You could place a whistle of your choice from those built in, then place 'horn'

The invisible whistle trackmark mentioned by jhatchman (AutoHornz Invisible, kuid:200726:24033) is very nice. It is uni-diectional and, of course, does not require an adjacent whistle post or whistle sign for it to function. In reality (whatever that might mean), not every instance of a horn/whistle requiring to be blown is flagged by a trackside sign.

For example, in the town where I live, there are seven crossings - not one of which is preceded by any form of sign or token advising the driver of an approaching train to sound the horn - but they do none the less.

Out of town, you will see a sign indicating that there is a crossing ahead, but the driver does not sound the horn at that point, but further down the track when the crossing is in sight.

I appreciate that you might know all this anyway - info just in case you need it :)

There is a simple solution to this, place a whistle board for trains going the other direction at the same place, but on the other side of the track.

You don't have to play around with anything. This little jewel works perfectly, AutoHornZ invisible <kuid:200726:24033>.

Thanks, b9k9kiwi, I've been looking for an easy way to do this. Just place it on the track and it works!:)

(Now, if there was a way to make the horn blow longer.......................)

Thats one noob post alright:eek:, but I'll humor your question. AI=Artificial Intelligence (a flammable combination I think), it is so described of vehicles, objects or other things in a game that are not user controlled. As thus they are controlled by the computer, they're meaning of artificial intelligence though, to experiment it is quite simple. Place a train on a route with a good signaling system and give it a command to just drive. Then you should see the train obeying the signal aspects as well as speed boards, and it should also change junctions so that it continues going and does not have to stop before the switch (though sometimes it does).

Thanks everyone for your replies!

@ b9k9kiwi thank you for the KUID recommendation and the background information. I like to learn about things like that, so by all means keep up the good work! :)

LOL @ Wilee :P

I downloaded the autohornz command and will hopefully give it a try later on. I decided to extend the mini airport terminal shuttle link by a station ;) so I'm reworking the tracks, signals, etc...

I am assuming I just plop the signal down and voila? I'll take a peek tonight hopefully if I get the time...

Stupid work...:hehe:

I got around to playing with the autohornz and just had to say that it works PERFECTLY! Thanks again b9k9kiwi! YOU RULE!

WHISTLE POSTS - AI TRAINS

Just read the posings re whistle posts and thank you all the information about the Autohorn Invisible kuid 200726:24033

I have been re-building a Canadian layout and decided to add whistles. I have tried the whistle rule (kuid 70049:2001) and the associated whistle posts.

The rule worked OK particularly as you could control the familiar locomotive bell sound as well. V. realistic.

The down side was that on single track road crossings (and they are in the majority in N.America) where there were 2 whistle posts: one on each side of the crossing facing oncoming rail traffic, the whistle was set off twice!!!! once each time it passed a post!!!

I am going to use the AUTOHORN for the whistle now...but presumably will need to use the other rule to control the bells...we shall see.

On another matter concerning Whistle Posts, kuid 2:87145:23036:1 and its ilk classify the posts as either signals or scenery. Neither appears to operate the whistle...so why the difference?? Can someone expalin that?

Thanks

There is another alternative "uni-directional Whistle post" that I think as yet has not been mentioned nor considered.

It's found pretty much anywhere in the world.
I am speaking of the typical building site, where one can find builders, who can quite easily be programmed to provide the classic AI activity of uni-directional whistling.

:o

Use two 'horn' signs, one either side of the level crossing, as suggested. To make the horn sound for longer, place 2 or 3 signs adjacent to each other. Doesn't look very 'natural', but works a treat.

sorry for my noob post to come, but what is AI traffic?
Troll, surely.
I don't really think so, but Boy_hennah1989, haven't you asked that before? (And before anyone tells me to search, you can't search for two-lettered words!)

But wouldn't just be as easy just to use a trackmark or trigger placed in the middle of the level crossing and adjust the radius to suit, and just use the Hornz command?
