Is portable hard drive suitable for TS12 installation?

I just bought a portable HP USB 3.0 1-TB hard drive for use with TS12. According to the user manual, the hard drive can support data transfer rates of up to 5.0 GB/sec. I believe my laptop (HP Pavilion dm4t-2100 CTO Entertainment Notebook PC) has USB 3.0 ports, but Device Manager is not indicative of that. My question is, would I be able to run TS12 smoothly off of this hard drive?

It may be possible, as long as both the computer and the hard drive support USB 3.0.

Be aware that you will need to leave the portable hard drive plugged in to avoid other issues.

I assume you mean "connected to the computer" - there is no AC port on the hard drive.

In a word, yes. I have TS12 on an external Samsung hard drive with a USB connection to my PC. It works fine.

I have a 2t Seagate external harddrive with Ts12 and Ts 10 on it. I have to disconnet it when i shut the computer. It won`t restart if I don`t. I have no trouble using it after I plug it in:)

recdriver1023,

If you are wondering why that happens, it's due to a setting in the BIOS (Basic Input Output System) which is sometimes set to try and boot from USB devices before the hard drive.

It's a risky process.

You will need to find the Boot Order section in the BIOS, and set the hard drive so it is top of the list.
