Is it possible to reskin Auran Buildings?

Sorry if this is a dumb question! I've been experimenting with reskinning buildings and I'd like to resking "Building Interlocking Tower" as an NER pattern signalbox but when I try to open the files in Explorer they are IM files and Photoshop says it can't open them. Is it possible and if so, how?

The IM files are the meshes that open in PEV's Mesh Viewer. The other files should be either TGA, BMP, JPG or TEXTURE.
 
I just opened it with Textures to TGA, one of PEV's programs. That is; I opened the walls TEXTURE file. The IM is the mesh, you don't need to open that.
 
Thanks for the answers - I think I understand!

BTW Photoshop is fine with TGA, BMP and Jpeg, its just IM and TEXTURE it can't do.
 
Texture you change with PEVSoft, IM Files are the things seen in game, you don't touch them, except for viewing them in PEVSoft

It may open the file, but it is not as advanced as Images2TGA - also, there is no guarantee that Textures2TGA is available in later Trainz versions, as it is no longer on PEV's site.

I managed to open "Building Interlocking Tower" but when I copied + pasted the textures I wanted nothing happened and BIT appeared as it normally is. It's early days yet though.
 
Auran's Airport

Taking the original question off on a tangent for a second, now that there are very realistic aeroplanes and airport buildings on the DLS, it would be nice to update the built-in "Airport Industry" which has been around since TRS2004.

Does anyone know how objecs could be replace please, and would it be legal and above board to share an updated version on the DLS?
 
Hi Guys,

I have been getting back into modelling, working on some new airports that will load and unload passenger and goods for my aircraft - making some progress.

A small military airport:

Hopefully I can iron out the bugs in the next week or so.

Clone the built-in asset and call it something else - rename it in the asset details window so you know that it's your signal box.

You can then run PEVs Images2TGA to covert the .texture files to tga files.

Edit the TGA file however you wish using Gimp, PaintshopPro, PhotoShop, etc.

Save the TGA, but remember to save it as an uncompressed TGA file (Uncheck RLE in Gimp prior to saving).

Close the explorer window.

Check for errors on the asset before going into Trainz and finding that it doesn't exist.

Commit the asset - very important otherwise it will never show up!

You're done, and have fun with your building.
