Invisible Track Question

Yesterday I downloaded a new route and had a derail problem on one of the crossovers in the route going from one junction to another in a switching yard. Here is the junction so you can see what I am talking about.

At the crossover point ( the left most middle yellow circle) is where the derail was happening and there was an "invisible track" at the point which consisted of a couple of blue lines that formed an arrow . The fix was that one of the splines was not "connected", and it just required moving it a bit till it made a click sound and was locked.

Now here is my question, what is this invisible track's function, and why is a section of that type of track necessary?

Thanks.

I prefer using BNSF Invisatrack, as it is fat and easy to see.

The turnout looks like a FT (fixed track) switch, that uses invisatrack as the train running rails, that the actual train runs on, as the turnout is merely a visual animated asset, with invisatrack connecting nodes.

Ah Ha.... Thanks for the explanation.
