invisible track on the landscape?

Ive seen this a few times so I was just wondering why sometimes I see invisible track on the landscape - not attached to any rail lines but usually close to it. anyone able to tell me what is the purpose of doing this please?

This is caused by some spline assets using the track in its creation. I think wire fence was one such spline that does this. Others like fences or walls have also been done in this way.

I use a short length of invisible track when I want to add a fixed distant signal (semaphore) as often found on the approach to a station in the UK, especially a terminus. (A fixed distant does not change with the setting of the next home, but is a warning to drivers to slow down.)
