Indian Hill Railways

I've been watching it. Very interesting and not just from a Trainz/trains point of view.

There was one on the Darjeeling Himalayan railway once, made fantastically for trainz.

It looks very interesting, sadly I'm in the US & cannot watch it due to it being blocked; I guess I'll have to get out my other computer and rig it up for Dr Who Watching and watch it.

You never know, this might appear on the BBC World Service, fingers crossed, because it is the BBC who show it here in the UK.

Watched this series earlier in the year, very interesting.

Just shows you the British Empire, wasn't all bad.

We left behind a decent railway network, law & order and the foundations of a democratic government, for India to build on.

IKB.

That's the spirit!

We British must stick together, whether we're of English, Scottish , Irish and indeed, even of Welsh origin!

Rule Britannia.

We can agree to disagree on that one Rob, otherwise the thread will descend into a bunfight as well as breach the CoC!!!

I'm a Scot and I would never tell anyone I was British and would be offended if someone asked if I was. Britain is a state, not a country.

As for the Irish, I can tell you for a fact that any Irish person would be highly insulted if you told them they were British. Ireland, while being part of the British Isles, is most certainly not part of Britain.

I'll draw a line under that.

As for Indian Hill Railways, I'll catch up with that on the old aye-Player... hehe.

No i am not British either pfx, i am Welsh.

I was talking about the British Empire in the old context, from an historical view point.

The whole concept is dated now and has no relevance, to the constituant countries that make up the UK in 2011.

Including Ulster, but not Eire.

That's okay as I was referring to Rob's comment.

I agree entirely with your reference to the British empire though Ulster isn't a country, only a province on the island of Ireland. Northern Ireland is 6 counties within Ulster. Apologies for being pedantic, put it down to the ridiculous politics over here...

Yup Ulster is a province, but the english call Wales a "Principality". But as a country, it is older than England.

As a Scotsman you probably know the history of NI and why it is seperate from the rest of Ireland. Another deliberate action of division by the english government.

IKB.

Haha. You're absolutely right. I'd better not start on the subject or I'll be banned for life!!!

Anyway, doesn't the Himalaya and Darjeeling railway look splendid at this time of year? If a little precipitous in places for my liking...

I'm not a NG or steam fan (phillistine I know) but I've found all the episodes very interesting. I think it's probably the way so many people's lives are directly connected to the railways. It's also great seeing the excessive use of health and safety as engineers ride pillion, without a helmet, to go and blow up a boulder with a handful of dynamite and some hand tools. Quality.
