Impressive is an apt description. I can't imagine how difficult the cleanup will be, the area looks fairly remote. It's really jarring to realize how much railroading is done on a thread.

very impressive and sad but realistic

we cannot take without any risk as mother nature reclaims at any time all or even more back.
Water and mud the most destructive power.
great pictures but not good.
What a scenery if weather normal.

thanks for sharing the picts. scratchy

maybe I can simulate somewhere in a corner when time left a washout and use the russian cranes when working in TS12 to pull them back on track when rebuild. But this washout is more than rebuilt track the entire side even more is completely gone.
My impression track way to close and same level high water level.

Roy:eek:

Wow!:eek::eek:

I hope the crew got out alright.

Would hate to be the one who gets the cleanup bill.

Matt.

At least nobody was wounded. Things like those are not seen all days. Outstanding pics

Cheers

You would think that the crew got out ok, as the lead loco is still upright and out of the torrent
Wonder if you could get that loco thats on its side working again? Surly all the mud and water would have got into the engine...

I thought those things floated?:p

At the very least, it's going to need a high pressure hose through the cab.
Judging by that last pic, there's a new bridge being planned for the line.:hehe:

Matt.

Hmmm, was this bad weather overnight, just wondering why they allowed the train to attempt the journey along the track.....

Cheerz. ex-railwayman.

Thought I'd give this a bump so anyone who didn't see the pics the first time around can have a look :) also found these pics which others may find interesting.

My guess is no. It would not necessarily be the mud in the engine. I believe the bigger problem is the water and mud in the power cabinet, computers, electrical components.
Similar to when a car is submerged.

Scratchy,
I would say that truck driver will need a new, better paying job.

The cost of the machine couple hundred thousand dollars - cost of the bridge quite a bit more.
Realizing that the accident did not hurt anybody- Priceless

Kenny

All they need to do is go into Surveyor and cut the track spline and put in a couple of bridges. :)

Seriously though the crew was lucky to get of that alive.

John

Was the bridge not actually attached to the supports at all? I am amazed a digger on the back of a lorry could pull it off like that. I appreciate they have to leave gaps for expansion, but still...

Good question, it really would have to have little or no attachment to the piers to get dragged all that distance, either that or the truck was doing close to light speed. Bridges are hit all the time but this is the only instance i can find where the truck appears to have won...
