Importing from TS12 to TRS2006

I have a NG locomotive in TS12 that I want to import ( export ?) into TS2006.
I see how to do it upwards in Shanes tutorials but not how to do it downwards.
Can somebody help here please.

Firstly, check that the build number for the asset is 2.6 or lower, as well as it's dependencies.

You can then use the CDP method to package the asset and it's dependencies - you may find the Pick List panel on the left-hand side of the Content Manager screen useful for this, as you can collect all the required assets there (using drag and drop) then clicking View in Main List.

Once this is done, you can select all of the assets (just make sure there are not any built-ins in the list), right-click, then click Save to CDP. You can then name the file and it will create it.

You can then use the Import CDP command (as detailed in my tutorials) in TRS2006 to import the locomotive and it's dependencies.

Be aware that if the locomotive or any of it's dependencies have a trainz-build higher than 2.6, you will need to make changes to the asset's config.txt file to alter the trainz-build.

Thank you Shane, I am going to give it a go.

PS : You must be sleeping in one of the passenger coaches in a session somewhere because you are always available ! :D

Shane : The said assets - if they have the ZZZ icon do I leave those or select them too .

If they have the ZZZ icon, it means that you have a newer version installed. Use View Asset Versions to check the trainz-build of the newer version.

OK thanks.

You remind me of the Texas cowboy who asked his mate : "wouldya like to see the fastest draw in Texas " ..and his mate said "sure mate "...and he looked and saw nothing...and asked " what now ?!" ..and the cowbay said ...." you wanna see it again ? "

The emphasis is on the fast draw answers not really the cowboy - but if you like the name

...go for it !

If I've got enough room to add it, I will look into it. I'm known for fast answers, and quite often I'm known for my technical knowledge as well.

Go for it ! Then I can also say I helped Shane create something on trainz :)

Now to see if I can get that asset working in TS2006, probably end up running on it's roof or something.

Just had a look on my profile, unfortunately an account problem (which I'm currently sorting out with Helpdesk's help) is preventing me from adjusting that.

Hope you get sorted.

While I have you on the line, may I ask : Trainzers who have only TR12 - do they also have these problems before 'interaction' between TR12 and older versions or does TR12 run fine as a stand alone version ?

When you import content with trainz-build numbers above 2.6 into TRS-2006 you are actually installing and backdating these assets to work in 2006. As stated earlier the first step is to get the end product CDP (railcar, loco, etc.) and any missing dependencies onto your computer so it/they can be installed into 2006. Where the DLS is involved, I FTP these one by one from the DLS to my PC and then install them into the 2006 CMP. If you have problems beyond this point I have a Word document covering all the issues I've had with backdating these assets to work in 2006 once you get them into 2006. Send me an email via the forums if you would like a copy of that and I'll attach it to an email reply. It is too long to post here in the forums.

Jan,

I have had very little issues with older content. I did do some clean-up first and repaired a lot of items before when I had TRS2006 then TRS2009, but the process is easy, and the results are great. I even imported my old route, created in TRS2004, modified in '06, '09, and 010. The route loaded fine, except for the sessions, and I was able to update things in there to where it is today.

Just remember that older content will not have the texturing and other details that lots of the new stuff does. It's the result of better texture handling and creation in the models which didn't exist for the older versions. There are some performance issues with splines too due to the way they are handled. See Mr. Chugg's post regarding his graphics issue.

Hi torino .
I will take up the email offer thanks. When it comes to learning computer technology I am one of those guys that have to follow step by step to not get lost . As Shane said in one of the threads we all have our own areas of expertise and this is definately not one of mine. I think digits repel my few brain cells...

Thank you guys for all the input . It all comes together eventually .

Can you import from TS12 into TSMAC? I am considering whether to get TS12 so I can put the content on TS MAC.

It may be possible, but it's not a good idea. TS Mac is designed for TS2010 content, not TS12 content, even though it uses the TS12 game engine. One of the reasons why is that TS12 builtins are not in TSMAC.
