That's So Trainz Forum
I'm typing this from my friend's computer. Unless I can use someone else's computer to access this forum, I'm inactive on Trainz now. My personal computer crashed. The computer can't restart. It starts up, and activates Startup Repair, since it has a problem starting up. This time, it says it can't fix the problem, and it seems I'm not going to be on TRS2006 for some time... or on the computer... So, I won't be downloading things, and stuff, so I'll see you guys when I can...:(

I'm sorry to hear that Joshua. Hope you get a new computer.:D

Do you have the origonal software that came with the computer? If so there is hope. If you do, you may be able to reload it. If the drive is bad you can get a new or used drive (very cheaply) and reinstall windows.

Doubt it. We could barely afford that computer with the money we saved for Christmas. I'll have hope!

Put a post in parts and labour and let's see if we can sort it out. I may even have a spare hard drive floating round, hopefully you have the windows serial number, or an operating system back up disk.

Update! I MIGHT be back for good!

Guess where I am! I'm at home! We figured the problem out, and we are still fixing a few things, but it's okay for me to go on now.

Here's the story:

-Something that was downloaded (I blame me and my Trainz addiction.:hehe: ) had a corrupt dataflow that bombed the computer.

-On top of that (and this is what we are only partly done on...) our computer is overpowered. Somehow, our computer is getting too much power, thus explaining the over-reving fan sound that appeared awhile ago and has kept us worried every since.

-Then, the dust build-up was incredible, we fixed that first, but all together, they took down the computer.

NOTICE: Our computer had to be reset!:( We lost EVERYTHING! All users and files- GONE. TRS2006-GONE! EVERYTHING I downloaded off the DLS- GONE! All that commited content and backups saved- GONE! I'm estimating at least 10,000 assets I lost. And I only have 7 days left on my FCT... Personal stuff is not a problem with me, but my sister took a toll...

So, I'm going to have to back-up everything from now on, since the future is unclear for the computer. I'll have to re-install TRS2006 someday when we're done.

I'm just glad everything is pointing to be okay... I guess it's a bit of a nightmare, but it's that or no computer!;)

Be weary of who you download from!
I have entered start up sites and "lesser known" sites and have had problems.
Sometimes folks put bugs in downloads because they think its funny.
I think it says alot about the person myself, but that is rambling.
Glad to hear your problem is fixed, if you look around, I'm having problems too, so I understand completely!:)

I only download from RRMods and Jointed Rail. Although, it could have been any user, and it could have come from ANY download, including e-mails. There were a couple of unsure downloads, including Fraps and Blender, but that worked out. Anyway, it's good that we learned what happens.;)

These days the problem is infected web sites and many you think are safe are not. Something like 80% of US banks have security flaws in their web site that leave them open to attack, and they are the ones who are supposed to be secure.

Respectfully, may I request seeing the source of your information regarding USA Banks that supports the 80% of USA banks having flawed website security. If it is just a wiki document, then the validity of the information may be suspect.

Additionally, what is the percentage for Canadian Banks, in order to balance out the North American continent for the banking sector.

Thank you for providing the requested information.

yay let's go nit picking :hehe:

On a serious note: banks are more prone to be attacked by hackers because there's more to be gained. That means security is pretty high. When a hacker does get through, it's usually widely covered in the news.

The real problem lies with computer vendors and their commission-based income. All they do is sell sell sell as many computers as they can. Computer safety is downplayed as a minor issue, to keep computer-illiterate people from running out the store screaming. Add to that the computer comes ready-built with an OS that has all ports wide open and is riddled with security holes... Tadaaa, another zombie in the making! :hehe:
