IFD and FIRE displays

After toying with Gmax a little and developing some useful NSW signals I'm in the market for designing a proper cab for the 82's and 90's put out by DavidO.

Next on the list is a proper NR/92 Class cab but to do that, I need to use the IFD/FIRE screens. Now the SD70 has the EMD FIRE screen, and I've seen quite a few loco's with this, as well as a couple of bastardised GE IFD displays.

The question I'm asking is just how the hell do you use them? I can't seem to find any reference to a screen-based cab layout in the CCG...

FWIW, I'm using Gmax, TRS2006 and pot luck.

2 questions:
A: will you be putting the cabs on the dls and how life like are they?
B: will you be making the 92 loco as well as the cab

sorry that i cant answer you questions but i had to ask

Keep up the good work!

Hi KRviator,
I haven't looked into FIRE screens that much but I'd say they need a fair bit of scripting to get them working. I steer away from cabs, they're fiddley and it's difficult to get accurate dimensions and data.
I did the 620-720 cab and although most people are happy with it I think it leaves a lot to be desired even after spending over 100 hours on it and my 48 cab never left the local hard drive.

Anyway, I would love an 82/90 cab (I assume they would be similar) ...as for the NR? ....I think the touch screens would be a problem.

If you need any help, I may be able to assist.......time permitting :D

Cheers
David

At this stage, I anticipate they will be available on the DLS, yes. My goal is to create a life-like replica of the 82's and 90's as they're what I work on everyday, so access to them for measurements and the like, is shall we say, somewhat simplified.:hehe:

The 92 class project is a ways off, but I would like to try my hand at the actual loco as a package, cabs, sounds and the loco itself. For obviosu reasons though, don't hold your breath on this one.

G'day David, you're correct in the 82 and 90 being virtually identical. The only noticable difference is the placement of the CountryNet radio panel, the 90's have Fuel Miser fitted and the location of the #2 end lighting switches on the overhead panel are in the #1 cab in the 90, for obvious reasons. And the BCP gauge goes to 500Kpa in the 90, not 325 as in other loco's.

I was going to wuss out on the 92 Cab and try to copy/mimic/alias the SD70 FIRE screen, as the GE IFD's I've seen only appear to be a photorealistic image, not a true, computer rendered display and so look very ordinary. It's cheating I know, but anyway...

Many thanks for your offer. I may well need it at some stage, considering they're your loco's the cab's are designed for. I only hope I can do them justice.
