if I download trainz 12 am I stuck with it on a single laptop?

just copy the files you downloaded to your laptop on a dvd and trasnfer it that way

If you go to your profile, order history then click on the invoice number (it should be at the top if you have not bought anything else). On that page should be a few links (setup.exe, setup-1a.bin, setup-1b.bin, setup-2a.bin, setup-2b.bin and then possibly another one (i do not have the game

Download all of the files and then run the setup.exe file. From there on it is just like a regular installation for a game.
When you first open the game it will starts running an extended database repair, this is in fact building the database, and it must be left to run fully (even if it looks like it is doing nothing). It shouldn't take too long if you have a decent PC, just go watch some TV
