I would like to meet the Trainz staff and know more about the history behind Trainz.

I would like to know how many software developers and/or engineers are working on future Trainz editions and how many are devising new patches for the current ones.

How many copies of Trainz software have been sold worldwide since its inception?

How knowledgeable are Trainz software people about how real-world railroad systems actually operate? :o

Microsoft at one time has had one or more editions of its own proprietary railroad simulator but that seems to have been derailed a long time ago.

It seems as if Trainz now is the Big Apple of PC train sim games.

Here is what really worries me and an important question about "future-proofing":

Will my saved TS12 routes/sessions be able to be imported into any future editions of Trainz that might ever be released?

Not sure if anyone would be able to answer your last question.

As for the first question, it's over a million but not sure on the exact amount.
As for the second one, you could be waiting a while to get an answer for that from N3V.

Couple of interesting facts I was motivated to uncovered by the questions in the thread starting post. First, Shane Turner, with his nearly 24,000 posts, is the all time leading poster.

The easiest question to come up with an approximate answer to is one not listed in the original post: "How many people have been part of the Trainz community". Since KUID numbers seem to have been (for the most part) issued sequentially to people as they made a first registration of software, and since the next KUID issued will be somewhat higher than 668,275, that would be a good approximation of the number of people who have bought at least one copy of Trainz and registered it. That number includes some number of people who have left the community, voluntarily, or otherwise, and it does not include some number of employees of Auran / N3V, who may have been issued neative KUID numbers. It also doesn't account for the fact that some people may have more than one KUID, for whatever reason.

As to the numberr of copies sold, my observation is that the number of copies of the game that various posters in the forums have registered seems to be about 4 or 5. Using the average of these--4.5--as a reasonable estimate for the community, the number of Trainz games sold has been on the order of 2.5 million.

Based upon past history, I would say the answer to whether you can import your TS12 routes into future releases is pretty good for the short term, but for the long term, say 5 versions from now or so, there may be added requirements that need to be included.

What's new going on down under, at N3V

I recently thought of starting a similar thread.

One where the N3V team posts photo shots, and tells us news of what updates are being developed ... sort of like: "What's new going on down under"

I checked this just a few days ago and the number of issued kuids is about 896,000.
