Here in Abilene, about every 45 minutes during the day and every 2 hours at night I can hear the horns blaring. I live 3 blocks from the tracks and they have to blow all the way thru town due to numerous crossings.

I am hoping to go back to El Paso soon and take some photos of the yard there. It's a huge yard so I hope to get some good shots. As a side note, don't try this unless you have prior approval from the Manager and the FRA.

I think those actually look pretty good from the shadowy side, but I hate the sun. Nice and pretty and green where ever you were. I spent some time roofing in FL in my younger years, I have an excuse.

Next time take a fishing pole.

Nice pictures and nice day trainspotting. We can't do that anymore up here. PAR actually sends the cops after anyone that's out with a camera even if you're on a public crossing or platform.

I think they're afraid somone will show off their really bad ROW and smoking diesels.

I wish I could but that is just a rain water ditch, or something like that. We just had some nice storms, hence the little creek

Interesting. Where I live, there are no "No Trespassing" signs around and also noone goes trainspotting in that area so there are never any cops around. I am probably the only person who has ever taken a shot of the trains in that area.

And the only time I have ever seen cops patroling along the tracks was when the UP police were cracking down on students who walk on the tracks to get to school as well as a group of students who had been playing chicken in the area.

Last year or so, a student who went to my school, I didn't know him, commited sucide on these very same tracks less than a quarter of a mile from where I was taking pictures. He was hit by a train and after investigation they ruled sucide.

Heh, that reminds me of the area I railfan.
Creek, check
Small bridge, check,
UP, check,
Close to home, check

Although, I do think my bridge looks a little nicer...

For that reason I can see the cops coming out and enforcing the rules, but with PanAm Railways, I think it's a different story. They are so bad with their treatment of their employees and their equipment, I think they're paranoid that someone will report the rotten conditions. They run everything right into the ground, and their ROW looks horrid. The only good rights of way they have are owned by the MBTA (state transit authority), so PAR doesn't need to do any maintenance on it. The rest of their lines have grass on them about 3 feet tall, and the ties are completely rotted out. They've also ripped up some lines after they deliberately chased the customers away. Hopefully with the new deal with NS, things might change, and we're hoping that eventually PAR will be sold off to someone else like NS.
