...And I am finally almost up and running after about three days of repairing and reinstalling my assets.
This started with an odd problem in Driver. I could not access the driver's menu items such as move to loco, etc., or access the driver's commands. Every time I tried, the computer froze and then I got a crashed message. At first I thought it was the session I had created so I deleted it, but this happened again.
At first I thought it had something to do with some new assets I had installed so I tried to back them up and then delete them. I could back them up, but couldn't remove them. Then for some reason, I had a built-in asset that ended up open for edit. I couldn't commit it because permission was denied. I then ran the extended repair on the database, which found some problems, but that one asset couldn't be comitted.
I then copied my assets to another hard disk, and tried to uninstall Trainz. I couldn't uninstall because the uninstaller was broken. I ended up deleting the directory, running a registry repair program, then reinstalled.
The reinstall went fine including service packs and adding in S&C, Murchison, and Cabon City. Then I attempted to import my data again. CMP2 crashed randomly. I did a database repair and then I was able to import my assets.
The process so far has taken me three days because of my busy schedule. I setup the import so that it takes place while I sleep, and hope for the best the next morning when I turn my display on again.
This was quite an experience, and really frustrating. I can see why some of the less experienced users would want to quit right there and then! At this point, I am ready to test the install, hopefully assets installed properly, and I am able to add driver commands again. Why the program crashed like that is beyond me. I have yet to figure out what caused the problem, and probably will never really know what happened.
