I killed my computer.

SD45T-2

Going back in time...
Yes I did.

I had to do a sudden shutdown of my computer, and now I can't get my OS to start. Computer powers up fine, just that my OS won't work.

Now I have to wait for my dad to fix it. He's a IT guy and is making a recovery disk. I should be off my laptop soon.

And no, no Hard Drive Wipe will be needed.

Listen, don't badmouth Win7! lol.

That aside, it depends what happened. A disk going bad in the wrong spot may not boot the next time, even with XP.

Sometimes, tightening up the SATA or EIDE and power cable connections provides temporary relief.

Haha welcome to my world! My PC's Wind7 OS would power up, but the Mouse and Keyboard wouldn't work, I have no clue why. My Uncle is also a techy person, working with computers for a living.

I haven't had my PC or Trainz for over 3 months now... I'm going into Trainz withdraws!!! He thought it was the motherboard... sent it out, got a new one, realized he sent the cpu with it, and after a lengthy time period, got it back, only to realize that it wasn't the motherboard... he now thinks he may have to wipe my hard drive and reinstall Windows... and there goes 30GBs of my Trainz content, but he was nice enough to offer to copy my local folder from TRS06 and put it back on the PC once it is fixed. I really can't wait to play Trainz again!

Hope my situation makes you feel better about yours, haha!

PSU..

Todays Pc are power hungry beasts at best.. especially when under load, most manufacturers skimp in every area they can and the number 1 area they do this is in power supplies.

If your pc is bought "as is".. from a major supplier, the chances are that the case and power supply combined cost $12, if that.

A decent power supply will set you back around $100 and upwards..

How can you tell.. the list is large, starting from pc power off under load, keyboard and mouse non responsive if USB.. external usb devices turning off or not loading.. hard drives powering down.. random crashes, the list is endless.

People start out ok with a basic pc, then they add a second hard disk, and maybe a better gfx card, maybe even two, then add the usb mouse, and keyboard..and maybe phone charger.. the list goes on and on..

My first place for you to look before you go swopping motherboards is check the psu's output under max load against the list of devices your running when maxed.. i think you will be surprised at just how much juice you really do need for a modern pc..

Are you saying that most people don't use a keyboard and mouse when they first get a computer or that a USB keyboard or mouse uses more power than a PS2 mouse or keyboard?

I am upgrading to windows 7. Dad does not have a suitable Windows XP disk so hes upgrading me to 7.

That means, only 3 computers now have XP in this house.
