I can't pass Tutorial 5. Bugged?

Hi. I just got the platinum edition of Trainz 2022 and been going through the tutorials. However, I can't get past tutorial 5 from what I assume is a bug. There is a part where you have to let a passenger train go past you at a light in the top left of the map. When I stop to let the train go by, the passenger train will go forward a bit, switch the junction, reverse and then go on the opposite track and continue going forward on its new route. This causes my light to not trigger and it remains red, thus being unable to finish the tutorial. No amount of time passing seems to correct the issue, nor does backing up and trying to go forward again. I saw in a youtube video that the passenger train goes down the right-side track and triggers the light to turn yellow after a few brief moments so I was wondering if this is a new bug that was introduced or if I am doing something wrong? Is this happening on other people's computers when they try to do the tutorial, as well?

I checked on my Content Manager and there are no missing dependencies, faulty assets and no errors or warnings. You might check on your same on your end. It is in Main Menu TRAINZ Menu/Manage Content. When I get a chance I will run the tutorial 5 and see what happens. It might be in a few hours but will let you know.

I just checked, and have the same bug. I created a bug report. You can do the same here for a quick fix: https://n3vgames.typeform.com/to/xRdryu?typeform-source=steamdb.info

Sorry it took me awhile longer to get back. Not sure what's going on. Completed tutorial on tracks across from where Rocky Mountaineer is at station. Running Mac Build 126293

I am running the STEAM build 126295.
That doesn't matter. There is no difference between the routes on any platform. It's been quite some time since I looked at the tutorials. If I have some time tomorrow, I'll take a look and see what's up.

I was able to complete the tutorial fine. The passenger train didn't back up and the signal cleared once the passenger passed the advance signal way past the tunnels.

What is your Build number? This is found on the Launcher in the lower left corner.

Is there an update available for your Steam version?

There was a recent service pack that fixed the issue with consists backing randomly like the one did in your video.

For me same issue and same STEAM build 126295. The tutorial is part of the base game and it is updated via Steam.
The last update in Steam was: 17 July 2024 – 04:25:08 UTC https://steamdb.info/depot/1784571/manifests/
<kuid2:661281:110101:3> Tutorial 05 - Signals
We have already created two bug report: https://forums.auran.com/threads/i-cant-pass-tutorial-5-bugged.178932/#post-2029364
and I hope everything clears up on Monday.

That's interesting. Good to hear, at least N3V is aware of it twice now or maybe more. ;-)

I wonder if the Steam version wasn't updated... The difference between the N3V store version and Steam is supposed to be a binary change that Valve requires developers to include to allow the program to launch only via Steam, or launch Steam when the program is launched. It's possible that there was a delay between what we're running now in Build 126820 and what's available for Steam. That has happened before if I recall.

Steam and N3V versions have different update channels for the base game.
N3V base game is installed from the distribution downloaded via MyTrainz and updated via Trainz Store.
Steam base game is installed via steam directly and update via Steam directly.
I think because of this there is a slight difference in the update date and content.

That's correct regarding the distribution but there shouldn't be, at least we were told recently by Zec or Tony, any differences in the content. Could it be that they messed up and forgot to click something before sending?

I have created a checksum file of each base game file right now: https://sharemods.com/wr5827zhp9z8/checksumsTRS22.zip.html
And we can compare the two versions (my Steam and yours N3V) right now and find out exactly which files are different.
You can use any utility to check checksums, or install the one that I use - HashCheckSetup-v2.4.0.exe: https://github.com/gurnec/HashCheck/releases/tag/v2.4.0
Then copy the checksumsTRS22.md5 file to base game folder and double-click on it. And see the result but in English in such a window in less than a minute:

John, are you ready to know the truth? :)

I checked and I have the latest up-to-date version of the game. I only got the game less than a week ago. The bug is consistent with each time I try to complete the tutorial. I haven't tried out any of the other tutorials past 5 to see if the bug affects any of them.

I saw you had reported the bug using the form. That will ensure that they'll see it. They're located in Australia and deep into their weekend right now and will look at it next week, not that they'll have a fix for it immediately unless they have one ready to go.

Try the other tutorials. I don't remember what they are like anymore. I beta tested these back in T:ANE when that came out about a decade ago and I haven't looked at them since.

Tried the other ones. They work alright, though tutorial 10 probably should have another pass through with regards to the hot keys. It told me to increase the water injector with the i key, where I should have been decreasing it with the 'o' key.
