Hurricane Sandy

StorkNest

Stop that, its just silly
If you are in the area where it will hit, please make sure you are prepped.
If you live in the New York City boroughs, check your location with this:

even though our 'brilliant' Mayor has yet to declare school closings or evacs while the Connecticut coast is evacing. :o

I do worry about my sister in NJ, she has to have dialysis every other day and I hope she is able to do so.

Best wishes to all of those over that way! I am lucky as you can see where I am! You dont know how thankful I am and that you should all be! Ed, Best wishes to your sister also!

When I first heard about this, I immediately started worrying because I have a friend in Savannah, Georgia which was along it's estimated trajectory, but I breathed a sigh of relief for him when I later read Sandy passed it by without making landfall.

To all US and Canadian Trainzers in the path of this, I hope that everything will be fine for you guys and girls and that you'll all be safe and well. :)

Thank you Enzo, that was kind.

I know somewhat of your worry and pain, considering 3 years ago I lost a close brother! And I seen it with my 2 eyes, cuz he died of natural causes! Not something any person should go through........

Hope everyone is OK too including Ed's sister.

Sandy is like Irene but worse from the cold winds from the north and wintry weather from the west. One projection I saw said 10+" rain for central and southern NJ, I have a sister with family in that area. I'm in the predicted 4-8" region, why I still cannot believe there has been no evac order for the flood prone places.

I wonder if this will break FEMA.

There's mandatory evacuations for all of the New Jersey Atlantic coast. Storm surge + high tides + high winds + full moon on Monday = "Get Out Now!" I'm sure even the Delaware River residents are saying, "Oh no, not again." RRSignal may literally be "floating along the Delaware" come Tuesday. Take heed everyone in the area, this is going to be nasty!

Sandy was just a medium wind and rain event for me (a little north of West Palm Beach, FL) since the eye passed about 200 miles to the east but it will be worse for those in the northeast as it will make landfall.

A few years ago we had 3 hurricanes go right over our house. Francis, then Jeanne 2 weeks later, then Wilma 54 weeks later. Francis and Jeanne made landfall within 10 miles of each other (very rare). These storms are not to be taken lightly. I'd strongly suggest deleting "brewskies" from the above list. You need to have your wits about you during a storms passage - not being drunk out of your wits.

Hope all turns out well for everyone in Sandys path.

Ben

hello to all members:

just a bit of info from delawere. all towns and citys are beeing evacuated along the coast line from the del. river meets the bay all the way down to finwick island. suppose to see hurricane winds in central and southern delawere. with the eye making landfall near atlantic city, nj. lots of power outages. waves 8 to 12 ft at the beaches and the bay 8 ft waves. I guess thats it for now

all you members around nj and pa, and ny hope you will make it through the storm ok

yay I soooooo hope for noo school because I'm from MASS. and I just got the call of the state emergency for MASS. and all surrounding states so I hope schools off for me i think what it sounds like is if barnstable says there not having school all schools will follow and this descition will be made by 4:00PM and my laptop is what I will be charging so if school is cancelled TRAINZ ALL DAY ON MY LAPTOP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:D

Hi engineerkenny:

They shut schools down here a half day before Sandys passage and all the next day. Besides the obvious reasons, school busses are high porofile vehicles and are easily overturned by winds as low as 40 MPH (and possibly less). Enjoy your day off from school (not gonna tell ya I didn't when I was your age and dinosaurs ruled the earth, lol) but also keep in mind a lot of folks with children all of a sudden have to find baby sitters or day care for thier children at the absolute last moment. In the long run a hurricane or any very bad storm is a massive disruption in everyones life at any level and at any age.

Unwelcome Visitor

Those of us living on the East Coast, USA, are awaiting for a visit from Sandy. I hope all the experts are wrong but if not then we're all in for big trouble. We may be without power for many days and flooded out of our homes so if you don't hear from us for awhile you'll know why. This is an enormous storm that's going to affect millions of people who are not really use to this. I will continue to play Trainz until the last minute and will try to keep everyone informed. Now it's wait and see what happens.

Sounds as though Ben/bendorsey and I have been through the same storms! It this one only stays a category 1 hurricane there should be too much trouble. Ben's right at you should keep your wits about you but on the other hand a Cat. 1 hurricane is a huge inconvenience more than a killer. Stock your coolers with ice and brews, make sure your have propane for your grill, have lots of bottled water and canned food and you'll be fine. Sometimes I miss Florida ;).

If that's the case, I don't have to go to the doctor in Burlington at rush hour. :)
