How would You replace missing textures?

Hello People, and thanks for your previous help ... teaching me how to replace a tunnel. I accomplished that!

Now, the next step in fixing the route I downloaded. There are about 10 missing items (possibly textures) (because that is what is most visibly missing).

All the items are by the same creator. And all are unknown on the DLS. I've already tried going to his related website and downloading some packs of textures. None were the KUID numbers needed.

I'd like to know what is the usual etiquette on what to do next. Should I bother the man with an email, or a private message here? Or contact the route's author? Or should I just fill in the textures using surveyor and my own guesswork on what the colors should be?

The route is small, but it will be some long work on it... I'm using 2006 SP1. Also, is there a way to substitute textures in some config file for the route?

Thanks for your help. Bob P.

What route are you trying to get the missing dependencies for ? Was it the same as last: (NSW Belmont to Adamstown).

In the CMP you select your route, and right click and go to "missing dependencies".

You can drop and drag missing depenencies, that have a downloadable icon, into the download box. If it is a "?" icon, I am unsure how to find it. Auran Black Pages DLS ( http://www.auran.com/TRS2004/DLS_f.php ) has some content that the DLS does not have listed. My PRR-TGV are there, but not on DLS:confused:

Asset "Errors" can be edited by edit in explorer and getting rid of an offending line of text.

Remember to re-commit the assets, if you open for edit.

I think that you can paste your own textures, where the missing textures are.

Personally, I would email the author of the textures first. He will most likely be quite happy to point you to the right place. Failing that you can try the route's creator, but speaking from my own experience the route's creator may not remember where to get them, or the source may have changed. Typically, the route's creator will not be authorized to help you directly with a CDP, although it has been known to happen. Lastly, if you care enough, substitute a texture of your own choosing.

Hello Bob, please give us some more details of the creator and missing kuid numbers, it is possible that they are not ALL textures of course, we'll try and help you out this way first and then Plan B afterwards......:hehe:

Tunnel Voie

As you were previously interested in tunnels, download "Tunnel3_1voie" and "Tunnel 4_1voie". I could never get these to work before, as the track kuid was missing...but now I have the SECRET...don't tell no one...but replacing the track kuid# in the config file with something easy like "MP Tunneltrack Dark-kuid #" is the trick. One tunnel is single track with wingwalls, and the other one is wide enough for double track. I lay my own track right on top of, and 0.20' above the supplied tunnel track, covering up the original track. These tunnels do not snap to the grid and are found under the "track-splines"-"bridge" button. I will guide you throgh the config file changes.

Hello to all again!

First, I will say thanks to my friend Cascade about the tunnel info. I'll get back to you on that Cascade! (I did try the link you gave to look these kuid numbers up, but with no luck)!

To Ex-railwayman, I can give you the kuids... They show up all in black in the CMP list,(with the question mark) Unknown, or something like that ...

Basically, they are all kuid2:68787:_______:2
Filling in the blank, the numbers are 21016, 22011, 22021, 22022, 22085, 22112, 25079, 25133, 35071, and 35076.

The kuid 68787, I believe, is Lotharhake. (though I could be wrong on that). I'd be happy just to get the textures, as they would generally complete this route for me!

This route will be filled in one way or another, even if I have to do it with my own dirty little hands!!! :p Thanks for your help! Bob P.

Hello Bob,

You are quite correct in stating that kuid 68787 is Lotharhake, one of our veteran German creators, who helped Josef Pav in creating the Marias Pass layout which is on this website... http://www.hp-trainz.de/html/news.html

Now, are you using TRS2004 or Trainz Classics ??

The reason I ask, is because, in the TRS2006 & TRS2007 versions, Marias Pass is a built-in route and ALL of the assets that you are missing below are also built-in....However, as some of these are the updated originals, some of the old items are still on the DLS under Trainz Service Pack 3. So, if you have a search on the DLS for say, kuid:68787:21016 you will find this - http://www.auran.com/TRS2004/DLS_viewasset.php?AssetID=6353
which is the old texture.....Have all your boxes ticked and go through what's missing, they're mostly, grasses & buildings and grab the old assets, at least, you will get some of the missing items.....Unfortunately, not everything is on the DLS, the last 2 items for instance are 68787:35071 and 35076, which are animals, Geese and an Eagle if I remember correctly, and I'm sorry, but unless you have them in your built-in TRS2006 version I don't think these are downloadable from any websites....Maybe someone else knows ???

It's a start anyway, I was wondering if these items were on the PAYWARE version of the Marias Pass layout that's currently on sale, is that the route you are playing with at the moment ???

Cheerz for now. ex-railwayman.

Ex-railwayman,

I will have to read your latest message again, maybe offline, to understand all of what you said....

The name of the route is something like NSW Belmont to Adamstown BHP. Cascaderailroad was right on the name, I think. Or was it Adamstown to Belmont......

It was done by a fellow with the nickname of 3830 (I think).

I am using Trainz 2006 SP1 for this route, and I seem to remember that the route was made for this version. So I do have the Marias Pass demo built-in.

So, if I download the old versions of the textures, they will have slightly wrong numbers, no? (without the kuid2 and the extra :2 at the end)

I'll have to go take a look into my Trainz 2006 CMP and see if these numbers are actually in there, built-in ??

Hmmm. Is it possible the route creator accidently included some payware textures? No big blame on him. I'll be back.... Bob P.

(I Went looked it up in my CMP)..

Yes, I do have all those old numbers built into my 2006 SP1....

But they are not Kuid2's and do not have the added :2 required by the route!

I am now wondering, If I download all the old numbers from the DLS using FTP into a separate folder. Is it possible to rename them? (as kuid2's) ... and also adding the :2 ??? And import them?

I'll just wait for any opinions on this. Thanks again for helping me out. Bob.

Hello again Bob,

I've downloaded the route so I can see where the problem lies....You are correct in stating that it's the NSW Adamstown to Belmont BHP and all the assets after I downloaded it were all there.....
You can always amend an asset number yourself, the object itself will always be the same, however, creators often upgrade something on it and therefore when it gets uploaded to the DLS it will automatically be given the next number, subsequently, you can have kuid2:68787:22104:2 or 3 or 4 or 5, some assets can be 12 or 20 depending on what the author has done to it...In the config.txt for the route just delete the 2 at each end of the kuid number and you should be OK, there may be no need to download the original from the DLS if the item is already built-in to your Trainz version, you don't need 2 of the same item....

The blank baseboards I guess were left by the creator of the layout as adding textures does affect the frame rates sometimes, and I assume he didn't bother to put anything on them, on purpose, this often happens on other routes as well, it's up to the creator what he does and leaves it to you and I to fill them in or leave them alone, it's our decision after we have downloaded it for our personal use....

Hey,
Reading this, I actually didn't know people downloaded that route? Personally I can't see why waste time, its a shockingly poor quality route. haha.

What are the missing kuids and I'll give the directions, or PM me.

Daniel.

Hello People again!

To Ex-railwayman, I'm surprised that when you downloaded the route, it showed no missing dependencies! I'm thinking that the German version you are using is more up to date than my 3335 U.S. version!

I was still showing those 10 or so " ?unknown" Kuid2's. Until I tried something you said...I went into the CMP, clicked on "missing dependencies". Then I right clicked on the route, and selected Edit...in Explorer.

That opened up Windows Explorer, and I saw the config file, Clicked on that, and it opened up in Notepad. I used Control-F to "find" all the unknown 68787 kuids... Removed all the 2's from the kuid numbers... Saved it.

When I restarted the CMP, all the question marks and "unknowns" were gone from the list! No missing dependencies! However, when opening up the route,a lot of texturing was still missing...

Hello to 3830, I will say that this is not an inferior route! It appealed to me because despite being fairly small, it was very well done except for that one tunnel, (which I replaced), and the missing ground textures.

I liked the fact that it looks like a real "rural"route. Out in the woods, with the trees, grass etc. very close to the tracks!

I will drop you a private message 3830! Thanks to all again! Another learning experience for me with this "Editing in Explorer". (Now to learn if I can substitute textures using some config list, but that's another thread)!!!

See you later, Bob P.

Glad you got it sorted in the end Bob, yes, the German version TRS2007 is more uptodate than TRS2006 SP1, with a few more goodies thrown in as well....

As I suggested in my other post, I assume the creator 3830 left the texturing blank on purpose on the baseboards away from the main line, to help with frame rates, but, I'm sure you can find a few grassy textures to fill the voids.....

Hello People again! Just gotta tell you this!

In my spare time, right now, I have been filling in the textures of this route.

And I must tell you, I am having a great time! (like a kid with a coloring book)!!(even though I am 60-something years old)! (old man grumble here).

This is a great way to learn about doing textures! I "get" the textures the author was using with the "get" button. Then I see how he used one texture over here, another over there... and do roughly the same thing.

Sometimes, like under a bridge, there is no texture, I decide to put a touch of "stony texture" , looks good! And I even discovered that you can "get" the empty baseboard color, and remove textures with this!

And when I drive a section I have filled in, it looks great, (all the grasses are already there) and frame rates on my computer have not been hit much at all. Well hang in there everybody, I think I'm over-and-out on this thread! Bob P.

PS Oh, I think there is some command to rotate the textures automatically. Right now I'm doing it by hand. If anyone can tell me how it can be done automatically (Trainz 2006 SP1), please do.....

Yep, those blank base boards I'm guessing are suppost to be there. As with the texturing, I just got sick of looking at it and I just didn't worry to much the placement and realism. The tunnel worked for me, but I've always had problems.
Glad you like it:)

Hi Back to you Daniel (3830)!

I have continued to work on filling in the textures on the route, but haven't touched it for a while.

I have the textures (nearest the track) from the Adamstown Station, out to the Burwood Colliery area, which is all filled in. Out to the Coal Tipple at Redhead, filled in. And I am about as far as the park (or soccer field, or whatever it is) after Jewels or roughly John Darling Junction.

I still must say that this route has a lot of interesting personality, considering how (comparatively) short it is. It has a "reality" feeling about it for me.

It has prompted me to load up on my collection of NSW and NSWGR locos and rolling stock, and also using the Australian built-ins included with Trainz 2006.

Lately, just for fun I have been driving some newly downloaded NSW Cityrail cars to pick up passengers. I have no idea if these cars ever ran there! But in the playground of my mind, it is just swell!

To me, if this route was finished, it would make a great addition to any collection of Auran Routes. But that's only in my humble opinion!

Best wishes to you, and thanks again for this route! Bob P.

PS. I also learned that to rotate textures as you are placing them,(so they wont look boringly the same) you use the [ ] keys!
