Using Edit in Explorer rathern than CCP should solve the issue. It's likely that CCP, because it was developed before Speed Trees, doesn't recognise the different file extension that they use; i.e. it only knows .im and .pm so anything else shows an error.

Only if an error shows in Content Manager is it a problem.

None of those beautiful trees shows as faulty in CM, they are all red in Surveyor but they can be located on the map.
Suddenly, all trees disappeared. A few days ago, all my Safetran and JR signals also disappeared. At this pace, I won't have my map ready in years. Very disappointed. crap...

I wonder if you opened something from the DLS that may have been nasty? The occasional weird routes we see in the DLS could be nasty for example. We chalk them up to mischievous children but who knows given the un-medicated people on the Internet.
