How to create backup of my routes and sessions

Saving your Route and Session

Here is a Tutorial I made up to save a Route, Sessions, and all NON-BUILT-IN assets:

1. Go to CMP and search for your route. Highlight it, Right click, and select Save to CDP:

2. For your Session, do the same:

3. Next, you must save the Dependencies in your route. Highlight your Route, Right click again, and this time select View Dependencies:

4. Now all your dependencies which are used in your Route will be displayed. This INCLUDES all Built-In dependencies. You cannot save Built-in dependencies, so we must filter them out. In the search window, the Kuid of your route should be displayed. First, click on the Plus sign and another search window will drop down. Second, select "Built-in" from the list, and Third, click on the lined-through equal sign. Wait a second or two and the list of dependencies will refresh, filtering out the built-in assets.

5. To save your assets, minus the built-ins, highlight the first item in the list and right click to "Select all."

6. Now you can save your installed assets used in your route. Select Save to CMP:

NOTE: If your route has MANY MANY asets, you may have to break them up in segments and save them in several files. I have discovered that trying to save too many assets at one time sometimes will crash CMP.

Also, I recommend saving everything on an extra external hard drive, in case your computer crashes beyond fixing and you must re-install Windows.

I hope this will work for you. I use it all the time to save my routes, sessions, and assets. If I left something out I apologize.

i want to make a buckup for a route i have created and its session.how can I do it?

The are a couple of ways. You could just browse to the 'local' folder inside the Auran/Trains2006....folder(or what ever version you are running), and then copy the entire 'local' folder to a safe location. This will create a back-up of all of your work and downloaded assests.

Or open CMP or CM2 dependant on your Trains version again and find the route and session that you want to back up. Right click on each in turn and from the menu presented click onto 'Save as CDP'. Choose a save location and a name and click 'OK' and your route will be 'backed up' as a CDP file.

It is also possible to use the archiver in CMP/CM2 but this is not something that I am familiar with as I have not used it

I dont even save sessions to cdp, just the routes, i hate sessions, they mix and mangle things up to a point where my route is a mess and I have to merge, so i just build on the route, and save to cdp, that.
