How to avoid this from happening?

I'm in the process of building a yard and this has happened on multiple occasions. I'm trying to put a spline point in between two junctions ( 141226 and 145428) to help level the track.

When I click in between the two junctions to add the new spline, it seems to pull the switch motor to the newly added spline point.

Which means that I end up deleting the switch motor and re-adding it back to the correct spline point.

Is it how I am laying out the track? I usually lay the long track first and then pull off sidings from the main track trying to lay the track in the same direction.

Thanks,

Miguel

This will generaly happen when you add a spline point, signals will do this aswell because they move with the end of the track. Just use the drag tool and put the lever back or delete and place a new one.

...or dont bother trying to add the extra spine point between the junctions, just use the one that exists on the right hand side track to lower that section of track slightly to level things up

Thanks for the replies. I guess there is no way to "prevent" it. I'll just have to chalk it up to a trainz quirk and deal with it like everyone else.

No, you should add that extra spline point, but not for levelling, on flat ground the vertexes should be level anyway.

The reason you need that extra vertex is so that you can straighten a short length of track before every junction vertex. If you do so your ladder will look much better and you will lose that slight kink in the diverging tracks.

One picture is worth a thousand words so...

Thanks Andy,
Have you experienced what I'm dealing with and can it be prevented, or is what Stagecoach suggested the only way to "fix" this problem.

Miguel,

stagecoach and Dermmy are both right. It is a feature and not a problem so there is no 'fix' needed. As Dermmy says, junctions will always look better if you introduce a short section of straightened track as per his earlier post. The thing to do is to introduce the spline point as you are laying the track but before you make the junction. Lay you main line track first and then start laying your junction track towards where you want your junction to end up. Click to create a spline point while holding down shift at the same time (this will stop your track 'snapping' together and creating the junction before you are ready) then join this spline point to the main line to form the junction. By doing it this way you will have exactly the same number of spline points as in your second screenshot but without the hassle of a moving lever, and you will then be able to use the straighten track button on the short length at the start of the junction
