How do you assign an AI driver to a train in Tranz new era?

I'm trying to create my first session in Trainz new era and have selected a driver (with orders or commands) for a train on my layout and have marked the drive with AI.

My question is how to I assign this driver to a train. As nothing happens when I run the session. I think the problem is that the session doesn't know what train my driver is assigned to.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Dave

Dave,

The process is the same as TS12 with a slight difference. Ensure you are driving the same session you setup and not an unassigned default session, which may exist. I have made this mistake before and it's very confusing.

When I setup a driving session, I name it as such, for example my CO&WT route I have CO&WT driving session.

I have gone as far as to date and version number this as well.

It isn't necessary to keep any of the default sessions, but I find keeping one as a blank session upon which I create other sessions is pretty handy.

Sorry JCitron but I have never written a session in TS-12 so that is no help.

What I have is a simple layout with 1 made up train on it (the train is not saved as a train) The driver is set to AI Driver and has the command "Drive to trackmark" (The command is enabled and the trackmark is valid.

I named the session Testing logs-A

But when I run the session nothing happens. What am I NOT doing.

Dave

PS are there any documents that I can look at to learn how to write sessions. Anything I've looked at does NOT seem to cover the problem I have.

Look in the Extras folder where the T:ANE program is installed. There's a user manual, albeit, a bit thin.

To create a session in a quick overview.

At the routes menu, click on your route.
Click on View Sessions on the lower right.
Click on Create session. From this point on, if you want to change your session after you've exited, use Edit Session located at the bottom of the screen.

Place some trains.

Save and put in a name you'll remember like route-name-driving session. (It's always good to save and we'll do this often.)

Click on the Edit Session rules along the upper edge of the screen.

Click on Driver Setup (Driver Setup)

You'll see drivers assigned to your locomotives.

There's an additional option in T:ANE which was not in TS12 - Remove all existing Drivers first.

I recommend doing this and removing any extra drivers who happened to be assigned to other locomotives around the route like those in an engine terminal for example because you can always assign drivers later as needed. This is optional so it's not necessary, but something to keep in mind.

Back to the drives shown...

You see the blue arrow things... Click on those and add in your commands like drive to track mark named whatever, (You did place track marks?). Drive to station load, etc.

Once all of these are done.

Save.

Exit the editor.

Now drive the session.

Hope this helps. There's a lot of other stuff you can do, but these are the basics which have been this way since at least TRS2009.

Thanks John It's still NOT working yet but now I have something to go on thanks to you.
It looks like I was NOT placing the trains first. Once I did that I could assign a driver to a train. :)

But I still don't have it moving but I feel like I'm making progress. I'm just a slow learner.

I'm going to be out of town until the 15 th so don't expect to hear form me before then.

Thanks again for your help
Dave :D
