Hornby Track

Hi everybody, I started this Hornby Track a long time ago, around October 2006. Well here are some screenshots of the track, I will upload some more later. I hope you like it. Send me your comments and questions about this route if you like on this thread. I would like to see them.

Here are some more pics,

A view from a tracking camera on the footbridge looking at a Class 37.

On board the Class 37 in exterior view with a Class 43 on the other line.

Outside one of the houses looking at the Class 37 going past.

Hope you like these,

Matthew.

I quite like it - very simple and I bet the AI will be quite at home when you fit signals. ;)

This is what the program was originally designed for, and I think you're into the beginning or serious route design. One note though - The radious of those curves is much more than the real Track Mat. Probably a good thing too :D

Hi Bidmod,

This layout was actually a bit smaller when I finished the track until my dad said to make it a bit bigger. I haven't worked on this layout for a while so when it is finished it will hopefully go on the download station.
I do not have a clue when will be finished.

Matthew.

This reminds me very much of my class 31 with the 'freightmaster' train going round and round my Hornby oval all those years ago....[gets misty eyed]

The lack of texture reminds me of my current [and slightly neglected] model railway :D

I wonder if anyone's ever released an MDF texture for Trainz... ;)

I started another Hornby Track on Tuesday and it is called Hornby Track 2007.
It is still a hornby track but it is the 2007 edition.
Here is the link to where I am copying it from, http://www.hornby.com/2007/trakmats,88,HAR.html
I have nearly just finished the track.
I will send some screenshots later when it comes along a bit.

Matthew.

This route is now on the DLS

Worth waiting for the updated one as this one has a few problems.

Here are the latest shots...

Remember the old Hornby 3-rail tinplate?

When I saw "Hornby Track", I thought you meant something like this:

I have to admit, I cannot understand the logic in buying a program like Trainz, only to be content with building a tiny one-board tail chaser layout. It seems strange to impose such restrictions on oneself. In the past, programs such as EEP and Hornby Virtual Railway made it impossible to do anything else, but Trainz allows for so much more. Surely, if you are into Hornby track plans then you would have stuck with HVR, or indeed, a real model railway. If virtual railways are going to make an impact in the model railway community, then we need to show what they can really do, instead of being hidebound by the space restrictions of the garage, loft or bedroom. After all, if modellers had the space we have, they wouldn't be content with a simple oval, would they?

Best wishes,
Padster

Paulskene I remember seeing rail something like that at my nearest railway exhibition. Is it on the DLS?

Also thanks Paul502 I am also updating the Hornby Track to V2 which will have custom track, less grass splines and I will change the long engine shed into a goods depot.

Paul, I wasn't telling the lad what to do, I was being honest and admitting that I couldn't understand why someone would want to restrict themselves to such a small layout. I was offering an opinion, which is what Matthew asked for. I have had an interest in railways for years. I had live steam in the garden, and a model railway in the house, but now that I have Trainz, I can't see a point in restricting myself even to a virtual garden railway, let alone a virtual tabletop one. But, at the end of the day, this is only my opinion, and it is not worth you seeing conflict where there is none.

Whatever I think, Matthew has certainly put a lot of work into his project and it looks well thought out.

Best wishes,
Padster

I to have built model layouts & am working on a new one after moving house, i just love the the challenge, & the illusion of space they create. The point i was making is if you are new to trainz its best to start small, have fun with it, & learn all its in's & out's, then you can move on to bigger things. I know from modeling that many are willing to help & advise . I also know that there are some that like to make things mystifying & belittle the efforts of others. Sadly there are some that do that on here too , glad to see your not one of them .

I think it would be quite a fun idea to make a model of the interior of a garage, shed or bedroom at real scale x 72 or 144 with only the interior modelled, and a few other 'life size' objects to use as a set for OO or N scale projects like this- a bit like the Hornby Virtual Railway? Could be quite interesting to try and fit a TRS route around real world things like doors, windows, beds etc.

I might have a play with gmax sometime...;)
