Holding a consist on a grade

I am using TS2009 and ProtoClinch (Elkhorn) which has several coal mines with sidings on a grade. When I uncouple the loco from the consist it starts to runaway or back into the loco. How do I stop this? I want to drop empty's (as per a session supplied with the layout) for later loading and pickup.
By the way, I have had no problems with the Clinch layout itself in TS2009 that I know of yet. Any help greatly appreciated.

Brakes

If the locomotive is a complete rest when you uncouple, the brakes of the consist are supposed to be set. If not a full rest they cars will roll like in a hump yard, that is how it works in 04 anyway.

Impressed

WOW, Thanks wreeder, I set up a test board with a 1% grade and tried the 'a' shortcut. No more runaways . . . I searched the manual, the forum and did not think to look at shortcuts. Lateral Thinking, thanks.

You're most welcome, glad to help.

Look in the TS2009\Settings folder for the keyboard.txt file. It lists all the keyboard shortcuts. Don't make changes to this list, just print it out for reference.

Setting the brakes is important. I've had freight cars reaching 100 mph. It was a fun ride, but not what I was trying to accomplish.:D

:cool:Claude

You can also put the entire consist into emergency. Uncouple, and then charge the air back up. The brakes will still be set on the cars.
