HOG Utility and 2009/2010

I've used the HOG utility in the past to create maps in 2004. I now have 2009 and I'm thinking about creating some new terrain maps.

I think I read somewhere that HOG doesn't work well with 2009/2010 but I didn't have any major issues when I moved old HOG created routes to 2009.

I want to use HOG again with 2009 this weekend because that's what I'm familiar with and it's free. Should I expect some problems with HOG and 2009?

It worked OK for me, you may need to merge the DEM with a blank board though to overcome a problem with ridges appearing at board joins. Do this before opening the dem route in surveyor.

New blank board, merge dem route with the board, does not have to touch it, better if it doesn't, delete blank board and save.

How do you merge a dem with a blank board before opening the route in Surveyor? Or a greyscale map that you feed to the HOG?
