HOG Utilities

First, I searched the forum for "HOG utilities" and didn't find any results.

I downloaded some routes from D/L Station that use the HOG utilities. Without them the maps are just checker board terrain. Bringing up mini-map shows that there is something there.

So, what are HOG utilities? I've Googled HOG, HOG utilities, H.O.G., 3dmax+hog and nothing! Where do I get HOG Utilities and DO I REALLY WANT THEM?

The routes (after I downloaded them) said they needed HOG to work. These are pretty big and while I have a hi-speed connection and FC Ticket it wasn't a problem, but for others that don't have either it could be. Suggestion: D/L Station should note that the routes were created with HOG or have a separate section for them.

Hundreds of pages of HOG information disappeared in the Forum crash. HOG (Hand Of God) is a small program created by tolaris to create Trainz terrain from DEM's (digital elevation maps). It uses HOG textures, which are simply specific ground textures to delineate TIGER data on the resultant terrain. I can't remember the exact acronym meaning, but it is basically map data showing roads, highways, waterways and rail lines according to color codes.

You can download the HOG files here http://trainz.luvr.net/ You need all five files and you install them in order. There is also a tutorial that goes with them.

Do you really want them? Well if you want to create prototype routes, then you probably do want them. If you are downloading a terrain-only map that uses HOG textures with the intend to build on it, then you need them. If you don't care about that, then you dont need either HOG or the HOG textures. When routes are created using the HOG textures the HOG textures are covered up by the route builder's final ground textures and so they don't appear in the final work.

You can simply ignore the "black screen of doom" message, or in TRS2006, turn it off like I have done. You can also go into the routes config file and delete the HOG textures, since they don't show anyway.
