High Top hoppers

Has anyone created any of these? I saw some in the New Haven, IN yard and I'd love to implement some high-quality ones on my fictional route...

Also, I'm curious as to what exactly these are for? Does it simply allow for more volume?

Looks like another hopper inside of it kind of but smaller size. While we are on the subject of hoppers I hope you don't mind are these the newer coal hoppers railroads are starting to use? Talking about the first two grey ns hoppers

I think so... They look like Bethgon cars to me, which I believe are new (although if a more knowledgable individual knows better, please do correct me!).

Definitely for woodchips. See them all the time on the Murphy Branch. And the Bethgons have been around for a while but they're starting to see more action lately. They hold more than a hopper or standard gondola and I think they're lighter too.

The High Tops are on the DLS, but I dont think there are any NS paint jobs. They are used to haul wood chips. Wood chips are lighter the coal, to make up for this, more car is needed to hold the same weight.

As for the other car's, those are Bethgons. They are used mostly to haul coal are ar typicality unit trains. The individual cars have a rotatory coupler on one end, marked by painted one end of the car a different color. This lets the cars go thought a rotatory dumper as a whole train. Its one of the only ways to unload Bethgons as the bottom dose not open on them.

Thanks all for the responses! It makes sense, and I even learned that Bethgon II's were rotary-dump... Awesome.

Out of curiosity, would anyone like to do one of the high tops in a NS skin?

Also, I think on the bethgons, the two parallel tubs were designed to keep the car's center of gravity lower, ultimately making them harder to tip over.

Yea, some times they would just cut off the frame and floor of a gondola and bolt it on top of a standard 2 bay hopper car to build them.

@Beattie
one of the guys at JointedRail made bethgonds and released them to the DLS
I don't know which version of trainz they are for, but since you use 12, should not be a problem

These (the NS ones) are coal. Most cars like that are coke carriers, with a modified top to allow more coal into the container.
