Im reskinning a trin in gimp 2.8 ive finished and tried to commit the loco and it said this
Error: The texture 'mesh_body/map1.tga' failed to load.
What does this mean and why is it saying this?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

Ah, My friend what you must do is re-open your TGA in gimp, click save as. If it ask about merging layers, hit " Flatten Image ". Then make sure in the next box that comes up that "RLE compression" is not checked. Then commit your asset.

I tried saving it and it said this
Error opening directory 'C:\Program Files (x86)\N3V Games\Trainz Simulator 12\UserData\editing\edit r7i1v67f437\mesh_body': No such file or directory
IM scared WHAT IS THIS!!!!!!!

Are you editing a TGA or mesh in GIMP. As far as I know, GIMP cant do anything with a mesh. What are you trying to reskin?

It looks to me like you don't have the item opened for editing anymore. Open the item for editing in explorer, copy your reskin to the exact same name as the file you copied it from, and then commit.

The reason why Trainz can't find the texture file is because in Gimp 2.8 you have to Export the tga file not save! If you just save the file Gimp saves the file not as a tga but in it's own native format. The rest of the instructions about saveing uncompressed ar correct. Why the major change in saveing files in 2.8 I'm not sure but just remember to Export files in tga, bmp or jpg whichever appropriate for the file e.g. save, sorry export screenshot thumbnail as ***.jpg
Hope this helps clear up your difficulties with Gimp 2.8

This is also the case with Serif PhotoPlus, which I have used for all my graphics work for several years - certainly all my Trainz textures have been created/edited using this program. It may also be the same with other graphics programs not previously mentioned. 'Save' or 'Save as' will use the program's native format.

I thought I would mention this in case it's of help to anyone else having problems with saving/exporting.

Excessive question marks and caps make this thread a little more tedious to read, however clicking save as, saving it as the texture name, making it a TGA and then flatten the image (if that comes up) and unchecking RLE Compression when that pops up will allow a successful reskin in the art of Gimp, free of leather of course
