1) I was following the advice of another poster and my custom routes have become corrupted. I have a route in particular that I am desparetly trying to save but I get the message that I can not save as the route as it read only. I try to save to a different name but the changes I have made are not there. When I change the route under the new name and try to save I get the same error of unable to save as the map is read only. How can unlock the maps from read only status?

2) I may have to reload Trainz to get some errors corrected. How can I save all my content I have downloaded (ALOT OF CONTENT) and configuration files before I reload trainz? and will I have to re-import once Trainz is back up and running?

Any help is appreciated.

World folder

I think you will need to copy the World folder temporarily somehwere else as that contains all of the downloads and route maps you have created.

Is this TRS 2006 ?

I had much of the same problem once. Cause was, that the roure was open for edit in CMP.

Remedy:

Open CMP, select 'open for edit' filter and check, if your route is in there. If so, open the edit menu and press commit.

Maybe this helps.

Looked in the CMP and there was nothing open for edit. Although the routes show in the edit folder in the trains directory.

the routes show in the edit folder in the trains directory.

Now it's just guessing from my side.

What I would try is

(Saving the world folder first as angelah indicated is quite a good idea.)

(1) try to open the routes for editing, select the option 'edit in windows explorer' and commit them again. Then check if they show in surveyor and can be saved.

(2) delete the files in the edit folder (that is, save them to another folder in another directory in case this might be fatal). Check again.

This is always a good idea, whether you're currently having a problem or not. I try to back mine up at least once a month and more often if I remember.
