Here are my system specs:

GA-EP45-UD3P Mobo
Intel Core2 Duo 2.5GHz, able to o/c to 3.2GHz
NVidia 9800GT 1GB Graphics Card
8GB DDR2 800MHz RAM

No matter what settings I have trainz at, it works very poorly. It's choppy, a lot of visual stutter; what is going on?

Explain more about what settings you've tried....it would make it easier to answer if it is known what you've tried so far....

Hey Sourdough. I forgot to say that I am using TS2009. I have tried driect x and open gl. No luck. I keep my Resource Cache Size at 2048, Refresh rate normally at Auto, and no Disable Hardware TL. Also, no shadows.

If you want to compare your results with someone else (me:p ) then start FRAPS, start Trainz Driver, pick a builtin route and session, and after selecting DCC mode, zoom out to max and write down the frame rates for views 1, 2 and 3. Post your results and I'll post mine.

Okay guys, here is what I got.

I used the Tidewater Point Rail Intro, since the Tidewater never gave me good performance anyway.

In Cab View (1), I got 57 FPS.
In (2) View, I got 27 FPS
In (3) View, I got 28 FPS

Cab view: 75-80fps
View 2: 27-47
View 3: 20-35

Max Draw Distance 3000m
Scenery Detail High
Texture Detail High
Anisotropy 1
Compatibility mode disabled

What exactly does "anisotropy" do? I've always kept mine at 16 but I've never known what it does...

Cheers

Make the picture with more sharpness look here:

With TS2009 and Windows 7 RC I have the same - only I change it in my AMD/ATI-Driver than I can see the result.

When you want more FPS: Take not the building in routes, build your route by yourself. Then you have much more fps - test it.

What OS are you using?

With 4GB of RAM and a QuadCore 2.66GHZ not OC along with an 8800GTS 640MB video card, I have little or no stuttering using W7 64-bit RC.

I have set my graphics details to the max, I keep my system cool, defrag the hard disk often and ensure that nothing else is running except for my antivirus software. My Resource Cache is set to 1536. I found the setting higher than that did not help the performance for me. In fact the performance was hindered.

Meatloaf,
I did do MSConfig, and turn off just about everything. I have an earlier graphics driver because the latest one for my 9800GT will freeze my computer up on startup.
