Help with Steam engine in Settle and Carlisle losing steam pressure,

Robert2d6

Cab Driver
Trying to run a steam engine in a session in Settle and Carlisle that involves running at high speed ( 70 mph). The steam pressure keeps dropping and it is a chore to keep it up around 150 psi, and sometimes it drops to the point where the loco stops. The coal level is good ( keeping it around 100%) , running cutoff at about 33%, and lucky to hit 35 mph. This session is in cab mode only, and what I am not sure about is how to set the water lever in cab mode. It says that the water is 100%, which I don't think is where it should be, but putting the water lever all the way down or all the way up doesn't seem to make any difference. This steam engine thing is new to me, so I am probably doing something wrong, but I read the manual and can't figure out what.

Hello!

The water level should be between 40 and 60 per cent, as that leaves room for the steam to be generated and the pressure to increase.

If the water level is 100%, then there is no steam in the boiler. If it's 0%, then there's nothing to turn into steam.

Hope this helps you,

Kieran.

That is what I was looking for, and figured out how to regulate the level with the injectors... Thanks for the help!!!!.....:)

I ran the Skipton to Carlisle late train session in the Settle and Carlisle route, which is fantastic by the way. Read up on steam engines last night and after a tip from Captainkman, I got the operation of the BR Brittania Loco, sorted out. I had not tried a steam engine in Cab mode, since Raildriver loses alot of functions for Steam-Cab mode, so I had no idea how to control this engine when I started. Today I had the train clicking along at 80 mph, at times, with a white hot fire in the fire box, 210PSI steam pressure, and had a blast keeping everything going. Check water level, adjust injectors, feed in coal, watch signals, watch speed, regulate blower when slowing down, it was a handful, but the time flew by and I had a blast. Can't wait to take my next trip in a steamer, and Cab mode only from now on.

What was the tip? I'm loving cab mode, but there seems to be more to it than is described in the manual. Anyone know of any more in-depth tutorials?
