help with AI trains not driving

this is with a map i have been working on from scratch. for 2010 when i give instruction for a train to say navigate to oil field load and then go to refinery oil unload he will do the first part but then after finished loading the trains just stop , they dont drive to a signal but just stop right after loading, i have them set up to repeat and i have tried giving them commands to navigate via trackmarks. also all my industries are at this point set up on a balloon track system where the will turn around and end up on the same track just headed in a different direction. so im not sure what im doing wrong as im new to surveyor. thanks Dan

I've had that issue too. Check that there are no broken rail connections anywhere, and that the route is signaled properly. The AI maybe waiting for someone else to move out of the way, so the driver will sit there until the route is clear.

Sometimes, they'll see their own caboose if the route is a loop. Putting in some signals in between helps a lot. Also check your signals. You need one at the junction entrance and exit, particularly with balloon loops. A loop should also use direction markers (yellow markers) pointing in the direction you want the AI to go. This keeps them from doing the old Mexican Hat Dance, and sitting there until the cows fly over the moon, waiting until either train moves.

I,m just going to elaborate on what John said. First order of business is to open your message box. There should be a message from your AI driver. My memory is not very good so my wording is probabYl inaccurate."Broken or missing point lever". Usually straightforward. Check all switches on your route, not just the track your train will pass over. I had it the other day for a missing motor point on another track. "Unable to navigate or find a path to destination"( or something like that) Not so easy to find. This could be a track direction marker pointing the wrong way (tip towarrds AI Train,) or as John sad a broken track which can prove difficult to spot. Luckily I can help you there. "Waiting for permission to proceed" is automatically generated after X amount of time, usually when the AI train is standing at a signal but not always. In your case this would indicate an AI controller problem. Not so easy to find or solve. If there is a complex junction just ahead of your train I have known the signalling to completely fail. In Port Ogden and Northern I had to build a flyover, LOL. You need to check the switches. If the switches are not in the correct position or they are constantly changing thats the problem. To help you further we need to know the message to narrow it down. I may add another post regarding the problem the AI has with "circles" which John mentioned. Now for "Colourlights AI troubleshooting guide". Place a series of trackmarks between the Oilfield and the Refinery. Call the closest "Test 1", then "test 2" and soon. Next go into Driver and instruct your AI driver to drive or navigate to "Test 1" If the AI driver stays put the problem lies between your train and the first trackmark. If the train moves cancel command and try "test 2" and so on. Youd should not have any other AI train moving during this process. We await your response.

so i finally had the time to go hunting for the problem and a switch on my main line was messing up and i just deleted it and laid some new track. the problem seems to have been resolved now.
