Helicopters

I have download and installed helicopters (plus sounds etc) and several coloured invisible tracks. The track works ok, trains will run on it, but I cannot get the choppers to sit on the track at all. They all appear in the rolling stock list, I click on them but they ignore my every attempt to place them on the track.

There must be more to it than what I am doing. What am I missing? Don't worry about stating the obvious.... it's the obvious I usually seem not to see.

Are you using a helipad with a lift table or are you plonking the chopper in mid-air?
If using a Helipad make sure the lines (invisible track) are connected properly.
If its in mid-air and the chopper has a retractable undercarriage, make sure its raised.
Also; Try your chopper on a normal rail-track, if it works there it's probably a break in the invisible track.

I'm plonking the chopper in mid-air but I have tried connecting a helipad connected to the track as well. Neither way works with the choppers but trainz will run on them just fine.

I tried putting choppers on rail track but, no, they don't work there either.

I did not know, or even think, about undercarriage. I don't even know if the ones I've got have it although the Super Puma looks as if it may have. Can't tell with the Bell.

Thanks for replying.......... any further assistance greatly appreciated.

How about moving your camera so that it is looking straight down towards the ground and then moving it so that you can see the invisible track and try placing it then.

It works for putting trains on bridges.:D

Hi
The only other thing I can think of from the top of my head, is make sure there are no dependable assets that have failed to download. Sometimes CM+ has a nasty habit of leaving these out, especially if you do a multi-item download.
If it won't run on a normal track I guess this could be the problem.
Just go into the DS, look-up your chopper & check for dependencies.
Cheers
Pete.

Now we are getting somewhere, scorpio.

I fired up CMP and there are 3 missing chopper dependancies listed and shown as local content. Can I take it that means I have them but something further needs doing? And if so, what do I do... it is not obvious!

No, not as near as I thought. those 3 items are just sound modules and anyway the CMP says they are not lisyed and don't exist. But thay are not somthing that would stop what I'm trying to do either. Snookered!

Well they must exist.

If they don't exist how could he have picked those kuids?

I figure that they must be on an external site sense CMP only checks the DLS.

It sounds like there are some dependencies missing, CMP does not always retrieve them all, nor show the link to the DLS sometimes. The dependencies should not be showing as "unknown" as well as locally installed.

Find the kuid numbers from the dependency listing, and go to the DLS and search for them individually. Don't forget to tick all the trainz version boxes.

Download via the Helper (they load into CMP) or use the FTP download and install manually.

And the obvious, :) make sure what you select is a traincar, not a static scenery helicopter from the Scenery menu.

Nice one Ian, I don't think anyone thought of that.:)

Snec: Here's a little trick that sometimes finds missing assets.
Open CM+. Make sure your download box is showing on the left hand side. If you have entries in it, hit the 'CLEAR' (Not Shouting) button.
Click on one of your choppers and drag it into the download box.
If on the left side of the chopper a small black arrow-head appears it means that there are dependencies.
Press the Start button, the arrow should now point downwards and load the dependencies.
Repeat with the other choppers. (Note: Only do one at a time).
If you hear the 'Moo' sound before anything downloads it means that the dependencies are already installed. If so, I would do what Ian (vulcan) suggested.
Cheers
Pete

Thank you, guys.
Now I have a new problem which has to be resolved before this one can be sorted.

Take into account that I bought TRS2006 this April and it is only recently that I have added a few things to it from *external* sites, as with the helicopters.

Now my problem is trying to access the DLS. I'm being told my serial number has been used by someone else. I did register it on installation so why was I not told then? Auran are saying I should take it back to the retailer (for an exchange, presumably). Well, I'm not doing that, it was fully sealed from PC World, they'd think I was mad!

Anyway if someone else has used the number, it seems Auran's sense of reasoning does not extend to the fact that the other person is using MY number. Or is it a game of 'Who Comes First' with these people.

I have emailed Auran and await their reply!

Hi Snec
That's a new one on me!
All I can suggest is double check the serial number you put in; and wait for Auran's reply.
Cheers
Pete.

Hi Roger
Perhaps you ought to place a Post in the 'General Trainz Forum', entitled, 'Who has this Serial Number'. It would be interesting to see what replies you get.
Cheers
Pete.

Morning Pete, the whole matter has now been resolved. See my other thread.

NOTE: Edited to point out this post related to the serial number problem..... see my next post re: helicopters.

Well, well, I'm cockahoop here.

Vulcan, I've downloaded all your helicopter stuff from the DLS and it all came complete.......... and it is working just great.
I must say thank you for the time and effort you must have put in, your stuff is going to transform my routes into worlds of wonderment.

I'm coming after your canal stuff next.

Kind regards
Roger
