Has the art of waffling been lost for all time?

A long time ago on these forums in the dim and misty past there used to be art called waffling. This is an art that took ages to acquire. A skill that made the post look as if you knew what you were talking about and at the same time talk about other topics interweaved into your trainz post. Just wondering has this ancient art now completely vanished plus the necessary humour................ I know it is a trainz forum and trainz only questions, but at the same time can't let things become too serious, as not a technical forum, but a hobby forum, within sometimes a very serious real world....................... Just a slightly waffling post, possibly soon to be deleted .....Posts that include spelling mistakes welcome................... Barry

The mere existence of this thread suggests otherwise....

Funnily enough quite a serious post combined with the tiniest touch of waffle.

Maybe just me and the way I see things and read posts on the forums these days. Barry

Ahhh,

The seemingly accidental double post ! Another example of waffling :) !

Oi! this was not intended as one of those threads that goes on with just waffle and more waffle but the serious implications and formality of forums lacking waffle and humour on occasions. The gremlins are responsible for much waffle and double posting, spelling errors and much else and nothing to do with the person who posts. Well known fact!

;):D

My U.K. Friend Barry..
The lost art of waffling.. was banished because noobery used it in too much excess.. thus, a forum-wide end to it happened. I am sorry to say.. but Waffling is gone.

Sean Hi, 1896 posts without a waffle in your heading. That is a true skill and art. I will try and practice not to include any waffling in my posts from now one. Going to be very difficult but will try ;):)

You want waffling? I'll give you waffling.

I promise to end taxes this year!!

(One month later)

I am raising taxes this week!

That's a typical politician waffle.

I think waffling suffered a serious setback when the old forums died. Many skilled wafflers with high post counts were disillusioned to find their waffles had all been in vain.

Or maybe they just became politicians. That'd be the most likely, seeing as we just had a bunch of wafflers get elected for office this year.:hehe:

------------------------------------------- That must have been heart-breaking, all that skill lost when I think, the news was that the platters had touched on the hardrive and the bytes of the forum had vanished into thin air. Treading a tightrope between what to post and not post. ................ I seem to remember when Trainz first started as long as you put the word trainz into a post, the post with some off-topic details was not deleted. ....... Barry

It appears to me that humor in general is frowned down upon here now a days. Especially sarcasm; which at one point in time was able to be found in almost every thread. I believe waffles went away with the humor. It is a sad thing to see happen; but there is little any of us can do about it.

I think the art of Waffling began its downhill decline after the original Master Of Waffling (MOF) when Spooney hung up his boots and retired from the Trainz World.

After his departure there was a serious delcine in the Art Of Waffling (AOW) with only a few being able master AOW.

The loss of the old forum was the final end to the AOW and a very sad occasion :( :( :(

IMHO -

Waffling and humor , even be it a little sarcastic , are two totally different aspects of posting on the Forum !

Waffling soon becomes obnoxious , humor in my opinion , is always welcome ! Even Tony is capable of making me smile once in awhile . Forget the waffling , continue the humor .

My thoughts --- ,DLR

Did someone mention ...

Perhaps we need a few of these along the way to keep things flowing and cover those?

Hi Barry,

Gone are those days, the golden age of waffling :hehe: !!

Before, the untimely unexpectedly great crash, waffling was a true art, where only a few true wafflers mastered. However, like I have expressed, that was then and this is now. The Old masters have gone back into the mountains, and have gotten lost in their whiskey and women, and forever abandoning their unique practices -- the waffle style.

Perhaps, there might be a slight chance of their return, but for now, all we can endured are the memories of a once great art, in a once upon a time place .... "General Off-topic forum"!!

Ishie :hehe:  :)

Masters of the art: Dru, Ed, and the legendary Spooney!:D

Waffling declined because of the tight moderation right after the forum was reset.....things have loosened up over time, but one of the missing features now that encouraged waffling in the old forum are ranks based on post counts. It was fun to reach milestones where you received a new avatar when a certain post count was reached.....the top being Trainz Diety which I believe was 15,000 posts. As I recall, Drucifer was well on his way to reaching that summit before the forum crash....Spooney probably would have reached it before the crash if he hadn't dropped out of Trainz....

The waffle thread days are over. This is a Trainz Forum. Sure it was fun sometimes when it was permitted but annoying to many Trainzers at other times. Trust me I received the complaints.

This is not to say we can't have good times here, but waffling for the sake of waffling doesn't work anymore.

Cheers

AJ
