Hard Disk error

Hi,

I have an ongoing error which chkdisk cannot correct:-
It comes up as...
"Correcting an index entry from index $0 of file 25"

it then goes to....
"Deleting an index entry from index $0 of file 25"
This may repeat in the onscreen chkdisk listing (on bootup) several times.
However, eventually it fills the screen with this message, & here it sits, in a loop, but not progressing further.

Can anyone suggest an alternative repair program better than chkdisk please?. Preferably a free one?.

Many thanks in anticipation for your valued assistance,

:)

Hi Noel
Have you tried to re boot and then when the startup appears press delete or whatever key you need to get into the startup screen then go to start using last known good configuration.
Noel I sent you and email.

Hi Larry,

Many thanks for the email etc. Ran the prog (refer to my email reply).
I have my slippers on. (refer to my email reply).

If all else fails, I'll try 'last known good configuration', if it will still get that far.
(It should. It's just me that's super-negative about this, the PC seems happy enough, when it eventually boots).
I've done heaps of virus etc scans & nothing.

Oh & if even that can't happen, whoever you get to come over here, get them to put a hat over the slippers please. The heat through the souls is enough to wake the dead!!!. I really need a good sleep.

Hi Dave,

Thanks for that. I'll check it out later on.
Presently the PC is still pretty slow sorting itself out at bootup, so that program you suggest may throw some more light on the problem.

Check the manufacturer's web site. Western Digital for example have an in depth tool for sorting out their hard drives.

Cheerio John

Thanks John,

I have a proprietary program for one of my HD's, but need to check if it's the one I need to use.
Thanks for the suggestion.

:)

Today it's more stable, as I narrow down on a few things.
